Nikki Reed Talks Having Kids With Ian Somerhalder: Does She Want To Be A Mom?
Nikki Reed just got married to Ian Somerhalder last month, and she’s already talking about having kids with her hunky hubby. However, it doesn’t sound like the Twilight star and The Vampire Diaries actor will be popping out any baby bloodsuckers in the near future.
During an interview with E! News, Nikki Reed talked about how important family is to her. The actress is celebrating her 27th birthday today, and she’s flying in members of her family for a fun barbeque.
“You know, I don’t get to spend as much time with my family as I’d like so I try to make it such a priority. Any form of a celebration, whether it’s a birthday or holiday or whatever it is, we try to all get together.”
Nikki revealed that she’s interested in expanding the new family she recently started with Ian Somerhalder, but she didn’t say anything about how long she wants to wait before having a baby – she simply said that she and Ian would like to have children “at some point.”
Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder are already getting plenty of practice taking care of other living beings. According to People, the animal lovers’ furry family currently includes two horses, three cats, and four dogs. The couple loves adopting animals, so perhaps they’d be open to adopting a child instead of having a biological baby.
During a 2012 interview, Nikki Reed shared her thoughts about how long couples should wait before having kids. She was still married to American Idol star Paul McDonald at the time, and she revealed that she wasn’t in any rush to have kids with him.
“Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like it’s a mistake for people to get married and then just [have kids right away],” Reed said. “I feel like it is the pressure of the family making them do it. We want to travel and be able to fly on an airplane without a baby and just have freedom.”
Nikki and Ian have certainly been enjoying their freedom as a child-free couple — they honeymooned in Mexico, and they eagerly shared sun-kissed snapshots of their romantic vacay with their fans. Unfortunately, as the Inquisitr previously reported, there’s speculation that the smitten couple is moving too fast. A few of Nikki’s friends allegedly think that she’s going to break Ian Somerhalder’s heart by leaving him after their honeymoon phase comes to an end.
If Nikki Reed really does have a problem with loving and leaving guys after the thrill is gone, hopefully she decides to hold off on having kids with Ian Somerhalder for a year or two.
