Chinese Woman Gives Birth In Internet Cafe, Continues Surfing The Web With Blood-Covered Baby
A 24-year-old Chinese woman, Xiao Li, was at an internet cafe in Nanchang, Jiangxi, province when she gave birth to a baby boy in the restroom. Instead of seeking medical attention after the birth, the woman went back to her place in the cafe and continued to surf the web with her blood-covered newborn.
The Daily Mail reports that patrons in the internet cafe were shocked when the woman emerged from the restroom carrying a newborn with his umbilical cord still attached. The cafe cleaner says that she entered the restrooms after hearing a baby cry. She claims that upon entering the restroom she saw a woman, Xiao Li, come out of the toilets carrying a baby covered in blood with the umbilical cord still attached. Despite the woman offering to get medical care for the new mother, Li exited the restrooms and went back to her seat in the internet cafe and continued to surf the web with her newborn.
“There was a lot of blood. It totally blocked the toilet. She initially just stood there shaking and covered in blood but then she sat down and continued surfing.”
The cleaner says that she tried to help clean the blood off of Li as she entered the cafe, but that the new mother refused her help. Despite the mother going back to the computers, the paramedics were called to the scene. After medical help arrived, the International Business Times reports that the woman refused to be removed from the cafe on a stretcher and instead walked to the ambulance.
Xiao Li explained that she gave birth in the internet cafe after she was pick-pocketed on a bus. Li says that she was on her way to a hotel when someone stole all her money. Therefore, she only had enough money left to enter the internet cafe for the night.
“I was on the bus on my way home. My money was stolen on the bus and this left me with just 30 yuan (£3) so I couldn’t afford a room at a hotel.”
The woman says that she was no longer in contact with the baby’s father and that she did not have enough money to pay for medical treatment at the hospital. However, the hospital and staff covered the cost of the treatments for the woman and nurses offered the new mother clothing and food. Meanwhile, the estranged father to the newborn has plans to visit the hospital and come up with a plan to care for the baby boy.
