Big Sean Split With Ariana Grande: Jealousy, Money, Or Misogyny?
The celebrity rumor mill has been in full swing since rapper Big Sean and Ariana Grande announced they had split last month. The official line is that Big Sean and Ariana split because their hectic lifestyles kept them apart. A report in Us Weekly after the split revealed that Grande and Big Sean made a joint statement through their representatives saying that they cared for each other but that they were ending their relationship.
“They both deeply care for each other and remain close friends, they made the decision to part ways because their conflicting touring schedules would keep them apart over the next year.”
Despite the official line from the couple, speculation continues to mount as to the reasons that lay behind the break-up of one of music’s highest profile romances.
According to the Daily Mail, 21-year-old former Sam & Cat star Ariana was “humiliated” by lyrics in Big Sean’s song “Stay Down” where he sings about her “billion dollar p**sy.” According to TMZ Ariana felt humiliated because Big Sean treated her “like a piece of meat.” If this is true, it would not be the first time in recent months that Big Sean has been accused of misogyny. Students at Princeton raised a petition demanding that Big Sean be dropped from a planned performance at the Ivy League schools annual lawn party. Students argued that Big Sean’s criminal record and “violently misogynistic and homophobic lyrics” meant he was not a suitable to perform at the school.
Kpopstarz claim that the couple’s split had more to do with money. Apparently, sources close to Ariana claimed that she was having to foot the bill to fly Big Sean around so that the couple could see each other despite their busy schedules. There was also a well-publicized spat between the pair back in February when Big Sean allegedly called Ariana “selfish” for missing his performance at the House of Blues. The performance fell one day before Grande’s big performance at this year’s Grammys.
Other sources have suggested that Big Sean was suffering from jealousy. When Justin Bieber appeared on stage with Grande, a message purporting to be from the rapper appeared on Twitter saying “this kid is about to learn not to touch my girl like that. Beliebe that.” Big Sean later claimed that the message was a fake and that he had “no problem” with Bieber.
There are also rumors that Big Sean was jealous of Ariana’s ongoing friendship with ex-boyfriend Nathan Sykes.
The reasons for Big Sean and Ariana Grande’s split-up may never become public knowledge. Whether jealousy, money, misogyny, or just plain old incompatibility are to blame, we can be sure that the rumors will continue.
