Damon Dash Slams Jay-Z? Former Partner Discusses ‘Honor Code’
Did Damon Dash (also known as Dame Dash) slam Jay-Z in an interview with Larry King?
When the subject of Jay-Z and Damon Dash’s current friendship status came up during an episode of Larry King Now, Dash basically blamed his former partner’s business partners for the “distance” that is currently between them.
“Because of the people that he’s around… and I usually don’t talk about him just because of this… but there’s been things where he’s been in business with people that are against my honor code. So, because of that where I’m from I kind of have to keep a distance.”
Dash continued by explaining a number of other situations that may have something to do with the current status of his friendship with his former business partner and biggest client.
“And because of the way the IRS is on me and because my friend Biggs is in jail and because the way my friend Irv Gotti got harassed and got accused of money laundering when I know he didn’t. Because of all of that, and we were guys that were in the street at some time…guys like me, we just stay away from that.”
Kareem “Biggs” Burke reportedly formed Roc-A-Fella Records in the ’90s along with Damon Dash and Jay-Z. In June of 2012, Biggs submitted a guilty plea for conspiring to distribute more than 100 kilos of marijuana and received a five-year prison sentence as a result.
Damon Dash apparently ventilated about his frustration over the imprisonment with a cryptic Instagram post, which blasted the “people that [he] personally watched Biggs help.” When rumors started to circulate that Damon Dash was targeting Jay-Z with his message, Dame came forward to squash the rumors in an interview on RapFix Live.
“It doesn’t matter what people think. I don’t project for that. I just project. If the shoe fits it has to be worn. If I have an issue with Jay, I’ll step to Jay about it, but my point is overall, it ain’t Jay, it’s a lot of people that I’ve seen him look out for that are expecting him to ask for help and he’s not gonna ask for it.”
In another interview with Sway earlier this year, Damon Dash opened up about why what he read in the newspaper scared him away from wanting to work with Jay-Z.
“This is the one time that the paper did scare me, and I was like, ‘Well there has to be some truth to it,’ which is when I read about his affiliation with informants. You know, that he was in business with certain people. And, it’s tricky for me to say, but based on where I’m from, I can’t have nothing to do with that.”
Damon Dash later referenced Biggs’ imprisonment and Irv Gotti’s harassment during that interview as well.
