Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush on Wednesday announced that he was endorsing Mitt Romney for President after the GOP presidential hopeful managed to win a lopsided victory in Illinois.
Upon announcing his endorsement Jeb Bush also called on other members of the Republican party to stand up and get behind Romney for President.
In his statement Bush proclaimed:
“Congratulations to Governor Mitt Romney on his win last night and to all the candidates for a hard fought, thoughtful debate and primary season. Primary elections have been held in thirty-four states, and now is the time for Republicans to unite behind Governor Romney and take our message of fiscal conservatism and job creation to all voters this fall. I am endorsing Mitt Romney for our Party’s nomination. We face huge challenges, and we need a leader who understands the economy, recognizes more government regulation is not the answer, believes in entrepreneurial capitalism and works to ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to succeed.”
The son of former President George W. Bush the Florida politician is a respected voice inside the Republican party and his endorsement typically leads others to proclaim their allegiance to a candidate.
The announcement shouldn’t come as a huge surprise as Mitt Romney had also managed to win the primary in Florida. Romney was also already endorsed by Jeb’s dad, former President George H.W. Bush.
Do you think Jeb Bush’s endorsement will help Mitt Romney push Rick Santorum and his other fellow candidates out of the GOP primary or are they headed towards a brokered convention?
