‘The Vampire Diaries’ Reveals The Death Of… [Video]
Warning: This article contains spoilers for the season finale of The Vampire Diaries.
Fans of The Vampire Diaries know from last week’s episode that Kai (Chris Wood) has found away out of his prison and returned just in time to wreak havoc with the wedding of his sister Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) to Aleric (Matthew Davis). While the sight of Kai stabbing Jo just before the completion of the wedding vows was certainly enough to shock Vampire Diaries fans, it was followed up by an even more traumatic vision.
By now, everyone knows that Nina Dobrev has made her decision to leave The Vampire Diaries and that she’s requested a permanent end to the character of Elena Gilbert, but fans expecting that the final episode would be a big farewell to Nina Dobrev’s character may come away from The Vampire Diaries’ season finale feeling somewhat cheated.
Remember Elena Gilbert being stabbed and thrown across the room only to land unconscious on the floor? Yes, that was it. Elena Gilbert is dead. Nina Dobrev’s Vampire Diaries character will remain dead, so if you might be thinking she’ll be brought back as a witch or a werewolf, you may as well give up on that pipe dream now.

The Vampire Diaries’ season finale may be anticlimactic in some ways, but it will also give fans a chance to say their final farewells, as it will focus on the character of Elena Gilbert in flashbacks and memories, as The Vampire Diaries pays homage to Nina Dobrev’s time on the show.
What about the leading men in Elena Gilbert’s life? Fear not, Ian Somerhalder fans. Damon will not give up on life by drinking the cure from Elena’s cold, dead veins. Both Somerhalder and Paul Wesley have signed on to return for the entirety of The Vampire Diaries’ seventh season, so fans can at least expect more brotherly turmoil, when The Vampire Diaries returns.
After all, there’s still Kai and the Salvatore matriarch to be dealt with and Damon will assuredly be seeking justice for his late beloved.
The quest for vengeance certainly won’t be one-sided with Kai eager to dispense justice of his one, blaming both Damon and Bonnie for the torture he suffered at the hands of Lily’s witch family in that 1903 prison world.
While Nina Dobrev’s departure will be emotional for many fans of The Vampire Diaries, the show must go on!
The season finale episode of The Vampire Diaries will air on May 14 on the CW.
