Reese Witherspoon Last Hosted ‘SNL’ After A National Tragedy — She’s Back For Some Laughs
Reese Witherspoon returns to host Saturday Night Live this weekend for the first time in 14 years. In an interview with Katie Couric, Witherspoon recalled that the last time she hosted was two weeks after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
“It was a really difficult time in New York City. I was so proud to be there and be on stage with firemen and Paul Simon, and Lorne Michaels I think did an incredible job getting that show back on its feet and making America laugh again.”
She also joked that she hoped she did not “embarrass” her kids, who will be in the audience for her SNL appearance.

Reese Witherspoon’s SNL hosting duties come as her new movie Hot Pursuit hits theaters. In a new interview with People magazine, Reese’s co-star Sofia Vergara dished on Witherspoon’s unfortunate addiction, one that might help Reese survive the late night broadcast: caffeine.
“[Addressing Witherspoon] I’ve never seen someone drink more coffee than you. I mean, I’m the Colombian one.”
Reese didn’t deny her affection for the dark brew, even admitting she frequently intends to cut back.
“My husband gets mad at me. He’s like ‘You drink too much coffee.’ I try to only have two cups in the morning and that’s it, but it gets to be 4 o’clock and I’m so tired”
Witherspoon revealed that despite Vergara’s svelte figure, the Modern Family actress is not shy about cleaning her plate, and has a love of cake.
While reviews of Hot Pursuit have been lukewarm at best, Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara probably have little reason to fear for their careers. Vergara is television’s highest-paid actress and Witherspoon was nominated for an Oscar this year for her role in Wild, a film she also produced.
In a new promo for her Saturday Night Live appearance, Witherspoon and SNL cast member Aidy Bryant make subtle reference to Wild by teasing they should wander off somewhere, take a walk and learn about themselves. They are quickly distracted by Aidy’s phone. They also skip out on the promo to enjoy the day. Have a look below.
As if her acting projects were not enough, Witherspoon branched out this week with a new lifestyle and clothing brand, Draper James. Its first brick-and-mortar location will be in Nashville, Witherspoon’s hometown. The name “Draper James” honors her grandparents and the brand will focus on Southern style.
