An Oregon woman with stage four ovarian cancer has taken to Craigslist in a bid to fill one final wish before her death . The 56-year-old animal lover, Leslee Kirkendall, made a desperate plea for someone to allow her to simply play an hour in a room full of puppies. Leslee says that she has always been a dog lover but was forced to give up her three dogs when her cancer made it hard for her to care for them properly. Now, the dying woman simply wants to feel the overwhelming love that puppies give for one hour in an attempt to take her mind off her cancer.
The Daily Mail reports that the woman’s attempt to fulfill her “last wish” began when she made a post to Craiglist back in April. Leslee noted that the post “may sound silly” but assured those reading that she was very serious.
“This may sound silly, but I have adored and rescued dogs my whole life…I have stage 4 cancer and one of my last wishes is to simply..sit on the floor with a bunch of puppies and play with them for a hour and leave….thats all..if you have a litter of pups around 8 weeks I can just play with no strings attached or be a bother let me know something in the milwaukie area,,,i am 56..and have ovarian cancer..thank you Leslee.”
Kirkendall notes that throughout her life she has rescued dogs and simply wants to experience the joy that puppies bring to any room one last time. Leslie’s wish is simple and to the point. She wants someone to allow her to spend an hour playing with a litter of puppies before she passes away. The cancer patient says that the puppies would help take her mind off her cancer for a brief moment as she is able to enjoy the sweetness and innocence of the tiny animals.
“They’re [puppies] sweet and innocent. That’s all. I can come to their house. My husband can drive me. Or they can come to mine. I promise not to be a bother.”
Initially, Kirkendall says she only received two responses to her post. She chose not to follow up on those requests for various reasons, but says she has been inundated with so many responses she can’t get to them all after her story was posted in the local Oregonian.
“The outpouring has been fabulous. But it is simply more than I can do. I’m sorry that I could not return everyone’s calls.”
