Will iZombie return for a second season?
The news came early and it’s often said that early news is the worst news, but not in this case. The news was all good for the cast and crew of iZombie , the CW’s latest addition and first zombie-related drama, as it was revealed that iZombie was renewed for a second season.
While pleasing to fans and critics alike, the news wasn’t totally expected. iZombie has been a mid-season hit with CW viewers and with the CW’s own upper echelon, who see the potential in both creator Rob Thomas and iZombie star, Rose McIver.
Possibly one of the key deciding factors had to do with iZombie ‘s ability to stand on its own, a criteria iZombie had the chance to prove when The Flash , which precedes the freshman series, aired a repeat episode. Even without the big draw of a new episode of The Flash , viewers still tuned in to a watch a new episode of iZombie , proving the show can hold its own.
iZombie is based on the comic book series , also titled iZombie , created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred for DC Comics under the Vertigo imprint. Developed by Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright, the CW television adaptation of iZombie differs in some ways, but holds on to the comic book series’ sardonic charm, while adding a flavor of its own.
The iZombie TV series revolves around the life of Liv Moore (Rose McIver) and her life as an undead morgue assistant/detective. iZombie is unique for the way its zombies benefit from the eating of brains. More than just nutrition, in iZombie the undead receive flashes from their victims’ lives and take on personality traits of the people whose brains they ingest.
In past episodes, iZombie fans have seen Liv experience the joy of creating art by ingesting the brain of a painter, learning to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, when she eats the brain matter of a former sorority sister , suffer the trappings of agoraphobia, and indulge her own maternal instinct by eating the brains of an expectant mother.
Adding to iZombie ‘s intrigue, Liv enlists the help of her boss, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli), when she learns that there are other zombies out there with less concern for where they get their meals. When everyone’s favorite iZombie isn’t helping Detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) solve crimes or swooning over ex-fiancee Major Lilywhite (Robert Buckley), Liv is focusing much of her attention on what it means to be a zombie, while other less scrupulous zombies are plotting against her.
Join Liv Moore for her next bowl of brains and sushi, when iZombie airs Tuesdays on the CW network.
