New Jersey Housewife Amber Marchese’s Cancer Has Returned: ‘I’m Going To Die’
New Jersey housewife Amber Marchese was diagnosed with cancer for the second time last month. After discovering a lump in her breast while watching a movie with her husband, Marchese was shocked to find the lump, and she was even more shocked when doctors revealed the outcome of her PET-CT scan.
During a May 6 interview, Amber Marchese revealed her cancer had returned.
“I was just sick to my stomach,” she told PEOPLE Magazine. “I can’t even begin to describe the feeling you get when someone says you have cancer. Then to get it again after you thought you fought it and thought it was behind you …”
“I was thinking, ‘This is definitely it. I’m going to die.”
The 37-year-old New Jersey reality star was first diagnosed with Stage I breast cancer in 2009. At the time, Marchese chose to have a double mastectomy, which she believed would rid her of cancer forever.
“The percentage of it recurring is very small, less than 5 percent. I just fell into that category. I wasn’t so lucky.”
As the Inquisitr previously reported, the New Jersey reality star revealed the news of her lump discovery to fans on Facebook in early April. At the time, she said she was planning to undergo testing, which would reveal whether or not her cancer had returned. Following her PET-CT scan, which took place on April 13, Marchese said the only thing that lit up on the screen was the tumor itself, meaning there was activity in the area. Ten days later, Marchese’s doctor confirmed her cancer was back.
In the weeks ahead, the Real Housewives of New Jersey star is planning to have surgery to remove breast tissue with clean margins. She will also undergo radiation five days a week for five weeks, and take five different drugs, including Herceptin.
“Jim and I will go to the gym, then we’ll go have radiation, come home and have lunch and have a good day. That will be our new normal for a while, we will adapt, improvise and overcome.”
“You just have to go on with everyday life. I always say, it’s not a matter of if something is going to happen, it’s a matter of how we handle it. I feel at peace. I feel determined. I feel like everything is going to be okay.”
The Real Housewives of New Jersey season six has yet to be officially announced by Bravo.
