Miley Cyrus Working On Secret Album With The Flaming Lips

Miley Cyrus isn’t just working on her own music, she’s also working on some new music with The Flaming Lips. This news doesn’t entirely come as a shock to fans, since she’s been friends with the band for a while now.

Cyrus, 22, first paired up with front man Wayne Coyne when she tweeted him a happy birthday greeting last year. His band then joined her on her controversial Bangerz tour. The Flaming Lips also invited Cyrus to collaborate on two Beatles covers. She even got matching tattoos with the psychedelic band, according to The Independent. Some would say that she’s a poser who latches on to any trend, but Cyrus is obviously a big fan of the guys and their music.

Wayne hinted about the news on making music with the performer to Billboard.

“We’ve just been getting in each other’s worlds. We text every day – sometimes three times, sometimes a thousand. She does the pop thing so great, so it still feels pop but a slightly wiser, sadder, more true version. Some of it reminds me of Pink Floyd and Portishead.”

Sounds like Cyrus is still sticking to her pop roots. The performer has yet to comment about her alleged secret album with the Flaming Lips, but she did share photos of herself with Coyne on Instagram. She has already written and recorded seven songs for their upcoming album, most of which were recorded at Cyrus’ Los Angeles home.

“Her studio is just a little room with a desk. Miley was sitting there mixing. I was like, ‘I can’t picture Beyoncé doing this!’ It’s not a ­putdown of Beyoncé. I just don’t see her recording her own vocals and then EQ’ing it. It’s so punk rock!”

The album has no release date as of yet, but it will be one of the many collaborations between the singer and the group. Miley previously collaborated with The Flaming Lips to perform a track on Conan last year. She also was featured on the band’s artistic music video for their song “Blonde SuperFreak Steals the Magic Brain.”

Cyrus is also reportedly working on some new music of her own. In fact, she wants to create a second Bangerz album. The twerk singer shared a clip of one of her songs with her followers on Instagram. Cyrus has been busy in the studio working with Mike Will Made-It and Rae Sremmurd.

She’s also making a big announcement on Good Morning America on Tuesday, May 5. The morning talk show said that she’s starting a new foundation to help homeless youth. Miley also said that she “learned how to love” herself over the years, crazy antics and all.

The Inquisitr previously reported about Cyrus’ shocking new look, which includes neon pink armpit hair. The singer has been showing off her hairy armpits on Instagram for the past month. It looks like she took it one step further by bleaching it. Cyrus even shared some photos from the dyeing process with her fans on the photo-sharing app.
