It has been a while since we have heard any updated news on the health of popular singer Joni Mitchell. After a collapse at her home back on March 31, there has been conflicting information on the health of Joni Mitchell. Many updates reported the singer was in a coma while her website maintained the following statement.
“JoniMitchell.com issues its statements and updates according to the wishes of those closest to Joni, with the interest of privacy, medical confidentiality, and Joni’s well-being of highest priority. To this end, Leslie Morris, who is with Joni in the hospital, has approved the following statement to be made through JoniMitchell.com: ‘Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital – but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority – in the absence of 24-hour doctor care – to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts.’ You may add your well wishes for her at the website WeLoveYouJoni.com .”
As the Inquisitr reported several days ago, Joni Mitchell’s lifelong friend, Leslie Morris, has been granted authority over Joni to make medical decisions on her behalf. The Associated Press stated that Joni Mitchell, 71, may be able to leave the hospital shortly . According to a court hearing last Monday, attorney Alan Watenmaker convinced Superior Court Judge David S. Cunningham III to appoint Morris conservator of Mitchell. This grants her the rights to “confer with doctors and make decisions about Mitchell’s treatment and lifestyle when she leaves a Los Angeles hospital.”
The fact the court system seems to think Joni Mitchell will be well enough to leave the hospital is a positive sign for fans who have been anxiously awaiting further news on Mitchell’s health. While Joni’s court-appointed attorney, Rebecca Thyne, agrees that emergency conservatorship to Morris is “very necessary,” Joni Mitchell’s health issues were not discussed further during the hearing, and attorney Watenmaker declined to comment after the court hearing. It was also noted during the hearing that Leslie Morris was not asking for any control over Joni Mitchell’s finances.
