Will Jon Jones Ever Fight In The UFC Again? According To His Manager, He May Not
2015 has been a rough year for Jon Jones so far. Back in January, it was revealed that he tested positive for cocaine following a pre-fight drug test prior to his fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 182, which led to Jones spending all of 24 hours in rehab, and a $25,000 fine for violating the UFC’s code of conduct. Despite the fine, many people believed that Jon Jones got off light, and felt that the UFC should have brought the hammer down on Jones.
Since Jones’ meteoric rise to the top of the UFC’s light heavyweight division, his character has been in question. He’s been called fake, a phony, and almost no one believed that he was who he tried to portray in the public eye. Last week, the people who had been questioning the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champ weren’t surprised by him allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run, where a pregnant woman was injured and taken to the hospital. Marijuana was found in the rental car that was registered to Jones’ wife, which is why many people believe that he left the scene of the accident.
As of right now, the UFC has indefinitely suspended Jones, stripped him of the Light Heavyweight Championship, and he could be facing up to three years in a New Mexico state prison.
According to Malki Kawa — Jon Jones’ manager — Jones may never step foot inside the octagon ever again. Kawa says he’s 50-50 on whether or not Jones will ever fight again because he may have had enough of constantly being in the public eye, and being under media and fan scrutiny.
“If this is the last time we’ve ever seen him fight and it very well may be, then it’s because of a decision he’s decided to make. It won’t be because of something you guys are perceiving to be a problem. It won’t be because of any of the negative headlines of the positive things he’s done. It’s just because he feels he’s had it. Maybe that’s it.”
Jones was originally scheduled to defend his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson on May 23, but, now that he’s been stripped of the championship, Daniel Cormier is taking his place against Johnson, and the winner will be crowned the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
Whoever wins the fight on May 23 probably won’t be looked at as the true champion until they’re able to beat Jon Jones. But, it could be a while before we see Jones back inside the octagon, and, like his manager said, we may never see him fight ever again.
