Bobbi Kristina Brown May Remain Unresponsive ‘Forever’ As Bobby Brown Stays ‘In Denial’ And Nick Gordon Exits Rehab
Bobbi Kristina Brown spent weeks in a hospital dependent on life support, primarily in a medically induced coma after being found face-down, unconscious, in a bathtub in the home she shared with her 25-year-old boyfriend Nick Gordon. Now, although the 22-year-old daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston has been moved to a long-term care facility, she remains relatively unresponsive and could stay that way indefinitely, an expert told Extra.
Dr. Mark Liker, Medical Director and Neurosurgeon with Dignity Health Northridge Hospital, described her daily life.
“There is a feeding tube that provides her with adequate nutrition, and a nutritionist that’s ensuring that she is getting the right calories and nutrients,” explained Liker.
With a breathing tube inserted because of her tracheotomy, Bobbi Kristina also needs care for her lungs. But what of her ability to move and respond? That depends on physical therapy and how much of her brain has recovered after the deprivation of oxygen that occurred prior to her discovery lying face-down in a bathtub, unconscious.
“If she is not able to respond, then the physical therapy is usually performed on a regular basis and it is limited to range of motion exercises, so they will move her arms and legs just so her legs and arms don’t go into a permanent contraction. Also, I think it is good to continually or frequently send impulses from the legs to the brain just to keep the brain as responsive as possible, and that could potentially give her better function over time, better recovery.”
But how long could it take Bobbi Kristina to return to her life?
“[She could remain like this] essentially forever,” said the expert.
As for Bobby Brown? Bobbi Kristina’s father appears to be in denial, a psychiatrist told The Wrap.
Brown had surprised an audience at a concert when he proclaimed that Bobbi Kristina was awake and watching him.
“At this point, he’s clearly in denial about what’s going on,” contended Lawrence Genen MD MBA, a psychiatrist and diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
“Obviously she is still alive there, but what degree is she really [alive]? And the longer you remain ambiguous, it really does delay the natural grieving process.”
But Cissy Houston was blunt about what she sees as the hopeless future for her granddaughter, as the Inquisitr reported.
“According to the doctors she has global and irreversible brain damage and remains unresponsive.”
As for Bobbi Kristina’s boyfriend, Nick Gordon, who went into rehab after Dr. Phil staged an intervention?
He’s checked out of rehab and has a new determination to visit his girlfriend, reported the New York Daily News.
“He’s doing great,” said Gordon’s rep Josey Crews. “He’s a completely different person. His outlook on life is completely different.”
But although her father has blocked him from seeing Bobbi Kristina, it remains at the top of his list, said Crews.
“That’s always been a priority for him,” emphasized Gordon’s spokesperson.
