Bruce Jenner Interview Insights From Oprah Winfrey, Jane Fonda, Ex-Wives: Jenner’s Most Famous Transgender Quotes
Bruce Jenner’s interview made history when the Olympic gold medal winner told Diane Sawyer about his years of hiding his desire to transition from male to female. Now another legend, Oprah Winfrey, is confessing that she longed to land that interview, revealed the Hollywood Reporter.
“I wanted Bruce Jenner. Diane [Sawyer] got it,” admitted Oprah.
At this point in her career, Oprah feels that she’s interviewed everyone on her wish list… almost. But Bruce Jenner was special.
Winfrey now wishes that she had done more for the transgender community when she had her famous talk show.
“I was in a conversation a couple of days ago and someone said: ‘You know, we were talking about the whole issue of transgender and how it has become so accepted now, and somebody said, ‘You know the Oprah show, I think has had a big impact,'” revealed Oprah.
But she disagrees.
“I said, I don’t think so. We did several transgender [shows], but we didn’t do as much for transgender as I did for, say, abused kids or battered women.”
However, although Oprah didn’t land that Bruce Jenner interview, his comments continue to reverberate as celebrities, such as Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, praise Jenner’s courage, reported Us Weekly.
“That was amazing,” declared Tomlin, who has been candid about being gay. “I mean, he’s so well-known, a part of such a prominent family.”
Jane emphasized Jenner’s visibility as an Olympic winner.
“Plus, being an Olympic athlete. It’s important what he’s doing!”
As the Inquisitr reported, other celebrities ranging from Lady Gaga to Ariana Grande expressed their support.
“We have the chance to write this moment in history together. Let’s empower people like Bruce all over the world by being loving & not mean,” wrote Lady Gaga.
“Bruce Jenner is a beautiful, brave human being. Sending him lots of love. He’s saving lives and opening minds tonight,” declared Ellen DeGeneres.
But, above all, it was Bruce Jenner’s own words that reverberated across social media and the press.
“I just can’t hold the curtain any longer. Bruce lives a lie. She is not a lie. I can’t do it anymore.”
Bruce expressed his concern for the transgender community, emphasizing his desire to make a difference and his awareness of the violence against some transgenders and high suicide rates.
“I would like to work with this community to get this message out. They know a lot more than I know. I am not a spokesman for this community. I believe we can save some lives here.”
Jenner also revealed that he is a Christian and a Republican in another interview bombshell.
“I would sit in church and always wonder, ‘In God’s eyes, how does he see me?’ Maybe this is my cause in life. This is why God put me on this earth… to deal with this issue.”
In the follow-ups to the interview from fans, family, and friends, Jenner’s former wives have expressed their support after hearing him say the simple words.
“I am a woman.”
Now Chrystie Scott (nee Crownover) is revealing that Bruce told her about his secret during the first year that they were married, reported People.
“He told me he wanted to be a woman,” she recalled. “It’s so hard to wrap your head around it, particularly because he was such a manly man. He never indicated anything feminine in his demeanor.”
Bruce’s second wife, Linda Thompson, also expressed her support.
“It’s impossible for those of us who are comfortable living in our own skin to fully grasp what an imprisonment that must feel like to be born into the wrong body. Bruce has already ‘gone through the fire’… it is certainly not our place to judge him or others who may feel trapped, ostracized, or alone.”
