Justin Bieber Role In ‘Zoolander 2’ Revealed As ‘Accident Prone Rinjeff’ Then Deleted
Is Justin Bieber’s cameo in Zoolander 2 bigger than previously thought?
Following director and star Ben Stiller and the Biebs’ announcement on Wednesday of the 21-year-old as the sequel’s latest cameo, many speculated whether the heartthrob will be playing a model, an exaggerated version of “Justin Bieber,” or another role?
But if a May 1 Wikipedia entry is authentic, we now have a clearer idea. According to the website’s Zoolander 2 page, the Canadian was listed in the cast’s sub-heading as, “Justin Bieber as Rinjeff ‘Jeff’ Qalmok-Dravinski, an accident-prone young man.” That description was deleted on May 2.
The inherent comedic value in casting Bieber as an “accident prone young man” is a no-brainer, given his drama-filled past two years. While some delight in painting the singer as some sort of hardened, master criminal — in reality — the hitmaker was aged between 19 and 20-years-old when clueless, late teen antics such as a house-egging and Believe tour snafus occurred.
In addition, Bieber displayed a good sense of comic timing when he appeared on Between Two Ferns with host Zach Galifianakis in 2013, and at his Comedy Central Roast in March this year. The singer also appeared in two episodes of CSI: Miami.
The description of Rinjeff as “accident prone” brings more context to recent shots of Bieber in action on the Zoolander 2 set in Rome. One scenario showed him trying to escape from an outside cage.
Another crop of snaps revealed the “Where Are U Now” singer in a downtime moment with Stiller and co-star Owen Wilson in what looked like a graffiti park set-piece.
It’s not clear whether Bieber’s Rinjeff is also a model. Wednesday’s cameo teaser arrived in the form of a photo of Stiller as his Derek Zoolander character facing off with Bieber as Rinjeff in a “Blue Steel” pose, which suggests the Biebs’ “accident prone” character might also be a model.
All will be revealed when film trailers roll out ahead of its February 12, 2016 theater debut. Back in March, Stiller and Wilson announced the follow-up to 2001’s Zoolander by walking the runway as Derek and Hansel in Valentino’s show at Paris Fashion Week.
The movie also stars Penélope Cruz, Christine Taylor, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Billy Zane, Fred Armisen, Olivia Munn, and a lineup of cameos. These include Lewis Hamilton, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian-West. Models Karli Kloss, Cara Delevingne, Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn, and Alessandra Ambrosio, are also thought to be eyed as walk-ons.
Meanwhile, the Biebs and his hipster haircut returned to LAX Airport on Friday from Rome where he was questioned by Italian police over an arrest warrant ordered by an Argentine judge. It relates to an alleged assault of a photographer by one of the singer’s bodyguards in 2013.
On Saturday, the superstar tweeted that he is on his way to Las Vegas to host a day pool party at Rehab LV ahead of pal Floyd Mayweather’s big fight against Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena tonight.
The Biebs is expected to walk the undefeated Mayweather out to the ring as he has done three times before. As yet, it is not known if 50 Cent will also act as hype-man. In a recent sit-down with MTV, the rapper said that he and Money are pals again. The “I Get Money” MC has reportedly bet $1.6 million on Mayweather to win. He also offered his views as to why Floyd and Justin are friends.
As for Zoolander 2, we await Bieber’s big screen debut as the “accident prone” Rinjeff with intrigued anticipation.
