GTA V PC Has Hackers Shooting Money, While Some Users Claim They Were Banned For Mods

Grand Theft Auto V for the PC is continuing the tradition of previous games in the series with creative mods. Unfortunately, GTA Online is also continuing the tradition of being a hacker’s paradise, as some players have been running around the game world shooting out bags of money and taking other actions that range from humorous to game breaking. So, why are there reports of Rockstar banning mod users?

The GTA V sub-Reddit for the PC version of the game is currently inundated with posts illustrating the different ways that hackers have altered GTA Online. These are accompanied by other posts voicing concern that Rockstar may ban players for using a mod to adjust the Field of View (FOV) while playing multiplayer.

A user tagged as Never-asked-for-this posted an image showing that he had been banned from GTA Online and claimed that it was due to a FOV mod. However, there’s no verification that he was banned for the use of the mod. Attempts to contact Rockstar Support for clarification have resulted in responses that state that users should not be getting banned for using a FOV mod.

While it’s unclear if users are being banned for using the FOV mod, actual hacking in GTA Online is blatant and obvious. Twitch streamer HDCommentary shared the following video of an invisible player shooting the ground to make bags of money appear.

While the initial reaction may be “free money!” the reality is that Rockstar banned console players and/or reset accounts based that artificially gained money in GTA Online. This has put a slight scare into the community, because what happens to a regular player that has money shot at their feet in a game with hackers?

Stories of hackers using “God mode,” making themselves invisible, equipping special weapons, or messing up garages in GTA Online have all been reported by players. While some hackers are malicious, others are more humorous as related by Reddit user god010.

“Last night a trainer user showed up at the air field next to the prison. He was dressed as an alien and spawned 4 UFOs,” the GTA player wrote. “He was unkillable, but did not hurt anyone else as far as I know. All he did was start a ton of cash drops.”

GTA Online matches in public lobbies on the PS3 and Xbox 360 were pretty well known for hackers. Rockstar began initiating ban waves and sending some players to an online purgatory where they could only play with other cheaters. A similar response is expected for the PC hacking, but when it will come is unknown.
