Baltimore Riots: Protester Tries To Reason With Those Who Are Destroying Neighborhoods On Live News
As one Baltimore protester tries to talk sense into rioters, he — and the rest of the United States — find out that some people just don’t want to listen to reason.
During ABC-7 Baltimore ‘s coverage of the Baltimore riots, a protester begins talking with one of the reporters. He has a message for those who are running through the city and destroying their own neighborhood establishments. From the looks of those passing through the video, they were younger kids, possibly high-schoolers.
The actual video couldn’t be uploaded due to graphic language from those in the background. However, the Baltimore protester was trying to reason with the young rioters. They were burning down and destroying things in their own neighborhoods. So, he spoke as follows.
“This is our neighborhood! This is our block! Yeah, I understand that somebody died due to police handling. But this is not how you state a protest!”
[‘F*** the police!’ says kid in background]
“Yeah, but that’s not right though! That ain’t right though. It be ‘f*** the police’, but that’s on our block though, Bro! Now, we’re destroying our homes! Now, we’re destroying our community! For what!?… For what?”
“If you wanna protest, if you wanna make a voice, if you wanna stand up, do it the right way! Get your local legislator, get your religious leaders, and let’s sit down and talk about this!”
Unfortunately, those particular Baltimore rioters walked away from the protester’s wisdom. There have been several others throughout the city who have been trying to de-escalate the looting, fires and chaos. Yesterday, one guy single-handed stood between police in riot gear and those wishing to riot. He kept both sides from interacting. It was a brave move on the Baltimore protester‘s part.
Things have gotten so chaotic that rival gangs — Crips, Bloods and Black Guerrilla Family (BGF) — have joined forces to help de-escalate the turmoil. There was a rumor started by an un-credible source which stated that they united to “take out the police.” And it went viral. However, local Baltimore news interviewed some of the gang members, and they set the record straight.
Though most mass media focused on the violence that ensued, the Baltimore riots have calmed a bit. Several arrests have been made. Yet, several portions of the city have been lost. Now switching into recovery mode, the city of Baltimore, Maryland has to come together more than ever.
