Patrick Dempsey Fired? Report Blames His On-Set Behavior
Was Patrick Dempsey fired from Grey’s Anatomy?
Radar Online reports that Patrick’s bad behavior behind the scenes may have led to the on-screen tragic yet unexpected death of Dr. Derek Shepherd.
According to the report, an inside source opened up about how Patrick Dempsey’s alleged behavior made it difficult for Shonda Rhimes, the show’s creator and showrunner, to explore any other option.
“Shonda had no other choice but to fire Patrick! He had been showing up late, and was holding up production because he couldn’t remember his lines. This was such a departure from Patrick’s prior work ethic as he had always been on time, and ready to go.”
Radar reports that Patrick Dempsey’s personal problems far away from the Grey’s Anatomy sparked the flame of misbehavior, which reportedly tarnished his past track record.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Patrick Dempsey’s wife of 15 years (Jillian Fink) filed for divorce back in January due to “irreconcilable differences.”

Reports confirm that Jillian wanted spousal support, paid legal expenses and joint custody of the couple’s three kids – Tallulah Fyfe, Sullivan Patrick, and Darby Galen. Even with his marriage coming to an end, an insider reportedly claims that Shonda Rhimes was willing to work with Dempsey through that turbulent time.
“There was definitely a lot going on in Patrick’s personal life with the breakdown of his marriage, and Shonda had been very understanding. He was indeed suspended mid-season, and was given another chance to get back on track. But when Patrick returned, there was a chip on his shoulder, and the cast was being impacted.”
Patrick Dempsey was one of the original Grey’s Anatomy cast members. Since the long-running series first premiered in March 2005, Dr. Derek Shepherd was right there at Seattle Grace Hospital along with the rest of the gang.
Until his character’s death on last Thursday’s episode, Patrick was one of the five remaining cast members that have been on Grey’s Anatomy from the very beginning. However, the cast and crew apparently did not even have a farewell party for the 49-year-old actor.
Numerous fans and critics have used Twitter to complain about the death of Derek Shepherd. Some have even begged Shonda Rhimes to resurrect his character.

i don’t care if shonda rhimes thinks derek shepherd is dead, i don’t think he is and that’s all that matters to me. — julez grey shepherd (@meredithgrcy) April 26, 2015
According to an official statement released by Shonda, though, it seems as if a brand new chapter is starting for Grey’s Anatomy – a chapter without “McDreamy” and Patrick Dempsey.
