‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Ellen Pompeo Breaks Silence Over Derek Shepherd’s Death
Fans of Grey’s Anatomy have been going through a series of emotions after last week’s episode. The episode, which was promoted as the most shocking yet, turned out to be actor Patrick Dempsey’s last as Derek Shepherd unexpectedly died after sustaining life threatening injuries from a car accident.
Now the other half of the epic star-crossed lovers, the Mer in MerDer, actress Ellen Pompeo is speaking out about the episode. In a short note to her fans, she talks about what’s next for Meredith as she moves on without her husband and world renowned surgeon Derek Shepherd.
She tweeted the long note which she typed up in her notes app for the passionate fans who are either threatening to quit watching the show, or are still tweeting images of their crying faces.

In the note Pompeo writes, “I have always said what keeps me going is the fans. Knowing we move you and inspire you.”
She continues, highlighting Meredith’s new struggle and relating it to so many real life stories out there. “There are so many people out there who have suffered tremendous loss and tragedy. Husbands and wives of soldiers, victims of senseless violence and parents who have lost children. People who get up each day and do what feels like is the impossible. So it is for these people and in the spirit of resilience I am honored and excited to tell the story of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible.”
Before ending her note, it sounds like Pompeo is reaching out to those faithful fans that have been watching for 11 seasons, that are now refusing to continue due to Patrick Dempsey’s exit.
“I hope you will all join me on her journey. With gratitude and respect.”
As it was reported, thousands of fans have already signed the petition to get Patrick Dempsey back on Grey’s Anatomy. A petition that was started on Change.org has garnered over twenty-three thousand signatures.
The petition starts off with, “This is important because you cannot have people invest a DECADE into a character and then you just terminate them like that! You have people out here donating blood and organs trying to save lives, wanting to become doctors and all from committing to this television show..just to let us down like this. You’ve destroyed us. COMPLETELY!” And then continues on.
Will you continue watching Grey’s Anatomy?
