Which ‘American Horror Story’ Alums Are Returning For Season 5?
One of the things that American Horror Story offers is the chance for actors to come and go without an issue. Until Season 4, no character returned in a later season. The only characters to make a return in Season 4 of the show were Pepper and Sister Mary Eunice. It seems that most of the actors from the first season have moved onto other projects.
By Season 4, there were only four actors and actresses that returned for every season. Season 5 is yet to confirm the return of Lily Rabe, but Jessica Lange is definitely saying goodbye to the American Horror Story family. It has led to many fans questioning which alums are definitely returning for the fifth season, which is to be set in a haunted hotel.
Ryan Murphy confirmed this week that Evan Peters is definitely making a return. He is the only actor to be in all seasons. The Hollywood Reporter says that it was expected news considering Peters’ comments during PaleyFest in March. He did play a main character in all four seasons, and is expected to for this fifth. Some say that he will play Howard Hughes.

TIME also confirmed that Sarah Paulson will return. She is the only actress so far to return for all seasons. Executive producer Murphy tweeted that she would be “the baddest bad girl of them all,” suggesting that she will play a pivotal evil character. Up until now, Paulson’s characters have been protagonists, so this may be her first chance to play the antagonist on the show.

Other alums are returning to American Horror Story for the fifth season. Kathy Bates has been confirmed, with Murphy saying she will be running the hotel. The Titanic actress appeared in the third season, playing a character loosely based on a historical figure. While she was designed to be hated, some fans grew to like her. She then returned in Freak Show last season, as the Bearded Lady and mother to Peters’ Lobster Boy character.
Matt Bomer has also confirmed his return to the show. Again, his character has not been confirmed, but he will reportedly act opposite new cast member Lady Gaga. Bomer had a small role on American Horror Story: Freak Show, but has worked with Murphy on Glee. Wes Bentley is another actor from Season 4 who had a relatively small role and will appear in the fifth season.
An actress from Season 2, Chloe Sevigny, has also been confirmed in the line up. She was last seen as the nymphomaniac who had her legs amputated by Nazi doctor Hans Gruber in the second season. With so many familiar faces returning for American Horror Story, it is certainly shaping up to be interesting and exciting.
