Joss Whedon Speaks About DC And His Desire To Direct Batman

Joss Whedon may be known as one of the most successful directors in the Marvel Universe, yet he recently shared his thoughts on DC Comics’ movies, as well as the one character he would love to direct.

Speaking during his press tour for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Whedon sat down with MTV News to discuss not only the upcoming film, but also the worlds of DC and Marvel comics. When asked if there was a single character in the DC universe that Whedon would like to use in a movie, the director hardly hesitated in singling out one of the most popular heroes in comic history.

“Everyone wants to play with Batman,” he said. “Come on, that’s just a given.”

Whedon also extolled his status as an unabashed DC fanboy, pointing out that he loves to attend their movies. As Comicbook.com notes, Joss also said that he looks forward to seeing how DC builds their team, and that he wants to witness Ben Affleck playing Batman. The director also professed that he doesn’t understand the idea of a rivalry between DC and Marvel, pointing out the different worlds in which each brand operates.

“I get very confused when people are like ‘oh, you guys are in competition.’ I’m like, ‘Competition for what?’, you know? Because their movies are so different, and the way they approach them is, you know, the Marvel aesthetic and the DC aesthetic, and they just, they couldn’t be more opposite, and I love that. You know, I love going to their movies.”

Earlier this week, Whedon spoke with Yahoo Movies, revealing that he had seen the trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and expressed his excitement about the upcoming film, for reasons that every comic book fan can appreciate.

“I found [the trailer for Batman v Superman] interesting,” he noted, “because they’re bringing up a lot of issues that we bring up in Age of Ultron and I think it’s inevitable. And besides, Batman and Superman are gonna fight! I’m so excited! I’m so excited!”

This week, it was also revealed that comics legend Frank Miller will be returning to the world of Batman, penning a third installment in his Dark Knight series. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Miller’s work, while far darker in tone than Joss Whedon’s, has seemingly informed much of the aesthetic behind Batman v Superman.
