‘General Hospital’ News: Genie Francis, Tony Geary To Reunite At Daytime Emmy Awards Show

General Hospital fans will definitely want to be tuning in to the Daytime Emmy Awards broadcast when it airs Sunday, April 26 on PopTV. There had been some rumors and teasers that there might be a big appearance at some point during the broadcast and now the news is out. Which fan-favorite duo is reuniting during the show?

As the awards site announced, Tony Geary and Genie Francis will be together again during Sunday’s Daytime Emmy Awards show. As all General Hospital fans know, Geary and Francis played the iconic couple Luke and Laura on the show. There have been a lot of twists and turns for both Luke and Laura over the years, but soap fans still remember them as the soap supercouple with the wedding that can’t be topped.

Francis returned to GH back in 2013 for a bit, and she had also reprised the role previously in 2008, 2006 and 2000 to 2002. It’s her earlier days, however, that still gets General Hospital fans talking. Genie has played the role on-and-off since 1977 and the Luke and Laura wedding was watched by some 30 million viewers when it aired on November 16, 1981.

Anthony Geary has played Luke Spencer more continuously on GH than Francis in her role of Laura, though he has taken a number of leaves over the years. The past few months had Luke in the midst of an unusual and twisty storyline. Earlier this month, it was finally revealed that he had accidentally killed his mother Lena, and he also killed his father back when he was young.

Now Geary and Francis will appear together as presenters during Sunday’s Emmys broadcast. Fans went crazy when executive producer Frank Valentini shared the news via his Twitter page. Of course fans immediately shared posts indicating that they’d really like to see Luke and Laura together again on General Hospital in addition to seeing Tony and Genie together on the awards show.

As much as fans might want to see Luke and Laura together in Port Charles again, so far nothing along those lines has been revealed. Will Antony Geary and Genie Francis’ awards show appearance be a joyful one for General Hospital fans, or just an opportunity for them to miss the duo all the more?

Of course, there will be plenty of other soap opera stars in attendance, both as presenters and nominees. The Bold and the Beautiful fans are anxious to see Linsey Godfrey walking the red carpet, a bit feat considering her recent accident and surgery. There will be many other glamorous stars in attendance as well and folks can’t wait for all of the scoop.

Unfortunately, many fans are disappointed that they don’t get PopTV via their cable provider, so soap opera fans will have to stay tuned for updates to become available online as the show takes place. Could Anthony Geary and Genie Francis’ appearance pave the way to something for Luke and Laura on General Hospital? It doesn’t sound like that’s necessarily the case, but fans are hopeful anyway.
