John Boehner Says Some Of The Dumbest Americans are in Congress

According to Speaker of the House John Boehner, some of the dumbest people in the country have the ability to write budgets, declare war and oversea a massive federal bureaucracy.

Speaking in an interview in the Wall Street Journal, Boehner said,

“We got some of the smartest people in the country who serve here, and some of the dumbest. We got some of the best people you’d ever meet, and some of the raunchiest. We’ve got ’em all.

He also touted his own achievement in Congress

“There’s nobody who tried harder last year with the president to do the right thing. There’s nobody who walked further out on a limb than I did to try to get him to do the right thing.”

Boehner’s comments referred to last year’s contentious debt talks. The debt talks spiraled out of control and at one point forced some of the world’s credit rating agencies to downgrade the United States from AAA+ to AAA, a move unprecedented in history. There are a lot of critics who say that Boehner has presided over a bitterly partisan congress that refuses to get any work done.

As Politico reports, Boehner has been facing serious backlash from fellow Republicans who have recently vowed to kill his massive highway bill.

Boehner is presiding over a Congress that barely get a 10% approval rating.
