‘Fashion Police’: Will RuPaul Join Giuliana Rancic On The E! Show?
Fashion Police is still looking for new recruits to help clean up Hollywood’s red carpets, and drag queen RuPaul might be the good cop that the E! series needs — he won’t let Giuliana Rancic commit any more crimes against comedy by cracking terrible racist jokes.
According to Hollywood Life, RuPaul is one of the frontrunners to join the new Fashion Police panel. Right now, the only confirmed cast members are Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski, so there are still two spots left to fill.
In addition to making drag divas “werk” on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Ru is currently hosting the E! show Good Work, which is somewhat similar to Fashion Police. However, Good Work focuses on celebrity plastic surgery and other Hollywood beauty trends, and the panel doesn’t really poke fun at the way people look — it’s not about pointing and laughing at celebs who have undergone cosmetic procedures. RuPaul’s panel includes Botched doc Terry Dubrow and Sandra Vergara, the little sister of Modern Family star Sofia Vergara.
“E! loves working with RuPaul on the show Good Work and would like to test Ru with others they are trying out for the show when it returns,” a source told Hollywood Life. “E! feels that Rupaul would be awesome and they are interested in making it work.”
Fashion Police suffered a major cast shake-up shortly after Joan Rivers’ death. New host Kathy Griffin left Fashion Police because she didn’t feel like she was the right fit for the show, and Kelly Osbourne walked away because of Giuliana Rancic’s infamous comment about Zendaya’s dreadlocks looking like they smelled of “patchouli oil” and “weed.” The show was pulled from the air until September due to all the drama and defections.
As the Inquisitr previously reported, Zendaya stated that she wants the E! show to return with a more positive vibe, and RuPaul might be the stylish savior who can make this happen. Even though Good Work focuses mainly on plastic surgery, he doesn’t snark on easy targets. During the latest episode of the show, he called out Madonna age-shamers, he didn’t get catty about Lil’ Kim’s slanted cat eyes, and he didn’t poke fun at Farrah Abraham’s botched lip job. Instead, he chose to crack a joke about the teen mom-turned-porn star’s dream of becoming a plastic surgeon.
“I hope Dr. Farrah makes house calls,” he quipped. “Just leave the back door open.”
This sounds a lot like something Joan Rivers would have said, and Joan probably would have loved the Good Work segment devoted to celebrity pubic hair.
The late comedienne definitely seemed to be fan of RuPaul. According to Pink News, Joan Rivers joked that she wanted Michelle Obama to appear on RuPaul’s Drag Race. This was one of the last jokes Joan publicly cracked before her death on September 4, 2014. RuPaul also appeared on the In Bed with Joan web series.
After the racist joke debacle, Fashion Police definitely needs to add a person of color to its cast, and it’s going to be hard to find someone sassier and more beloved than Ru. Other celebrities who might be in the running for the show include Nene Leakes, Chrissy Teigen, and Khloe Kardashian.
