Sherri Shepherd: Baby Born Via Surrogate Is Legally Sherri’s Child According To Judge

Sherri Shepherd is the legal mother of a baby born via surrogate. According to People Magazine, the former View co-host has been in a heated battle with her ex, Lamar Sally, after the two had a baby via surrogate after they split. Sherri’s egg was not used to create the embryo, and once she and Sally split up, she wanted nothing to do with their child. Perhaps figuring the child wasn’t hers because it wasn’t her “biological” offspring, Sherri thought she would be able to just walk away from the situation.

However, today a judge ruled that Sherri is the legal mother of the now 8-month-old.

“It’s bittersweet. I’m glad it’s over, but I feel sad what it had to come to. Now I can go back to L.A. and tend to my son,” said Sally after the ruling.

Sherri Shepherd may not raise the baby, but she is financially responsible for him. According to Mail Online, Shepherd and Sally will be working out the child support situation, as Sherri will be forced to pay to support the child because of the judge’s ruling in the case.

Despite Sherri making claims that she was “tricked” into having the child, Sally says that it was Shepherd who really wanted a baby, and that it was her who had been pushing. Not long after Sally finally agreed, things sort of just fell apart. Sally says that he was completely blindsided by Shepherd’s change of heart to keep the baby once the couple went their separate ways.

“That is one of the reasons we married after only a year – because she was ready to do this,’ Sally said in his exclusive interview. ‘I wanted to wait another year or two to get married but having a baby with me was so important to her I said OK, let’s do it.’ “

Sherri Shepherd essentially abandoned the baby during the surrogate’s third trimester. She was present at the 20-week ultrasound, but something after that just changed. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Sherri didn’t even show up for the baby’s birth in August. Surrogate Jessica Bartholomew was saddled with the responsibility of a child that wasn’t meant to be hers. After today’s ruling, however, Bartholomew will no longer be financially responsible to the baby boy. She will finally be able to move on, as heartbreaking as the whole situation may have been for her in general.

Sherri Shepherd found out about the ruling from her attorney, as she was not present in court for unknown reasons.
