Derek Hough Injury: ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Pro Hurt, Spends Night In Hospital
Derek Hough and Nastia Liukin had a pretty solid night of dancing Monday on Dancing With the Stars, and they were safe from elimination and slated to dance again next week. However, overnight, some social media posts gave Derek and Nastia fans a big reason to worry about their mirror-ball trophy chances for this 20th season. What’s the scoop?
Though everything sure seemed fine during the show, Derek Hough is injured. His fellow Dancing With the Stars pro and best buddy Mark Ballas posted a photo to Instagram in the wee hours of Tuesday morning showing both him and Derek with frowns on their faces. Unfortunately, the picture was taken at the hospital, and Derek is the patient.
Mark wrote, “Long night in the ER with @derekhough nothing worse than seeing a fellow dancer get hurt especially your brother But he had me @bcjean & @corkyballas there by his side. #fam.”
There was another photo posted to social media overnight, though it seems that the guys have deleted it. However, Pure Derek Hough caught a screencap of it. The photo shows Mark and his girlfriend BC Jean, with Mark frowning and giving a thumbs-down. Derek’s feet are in the photograph, and that’s the piece that has a lot of Derek’s DWTS fans concerned.
The photo shows Derek with both of his feet injured. It seems he has a boot on his right foot, and the left is wrapped up and in a splint. That second post also had a mention of Derek being in utter disbelief.
At this point, nobody knows exactly what happened to Derek or how bad his injuries are, but Dancing With the Stars fans are definitely concerned. Some fans at Pure Derek Hough theorize that Derek may have been injured while rehearsing after Monday’s show for the big anniversary special coming up, as many prior contestants are returning.
As PureDWTS shares, the Dancing With the Stars anniversary special is slated to tape today and air in May. DWTS spoilers have revealed that there will be an NFL group dance with former contestants like Donald Driver, Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward, and more returning to participate. There will be performances from Val Chmerkovskiy and Kelly Monaco, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Meryl Davis, along with Witney Carson and Alfonso Ribiero.
Mark and Derek were slated to do a “bromance” piece that would include Chelsea Kane, Amy Purdy, Amber Riley, Sadie Robertson, Katherine Jenkins, and more. It may have been while working on this piece that Derek got injured. Both Amy and Amber tweeted overnight Monday with notes that they were praying, crossing fingers, and facing a sleepless night, notes that many suspect are related to knowing about Derek’s injury.
This injury comes at a horrible time for Hough. He’s still in the midst of the New York Spring Spectacular show, and of course, this big season of DWTS is in the serious stages of the competition. Will Derek be able to keep dancing? Based on the photos posted on Instagram, most would guess that he’s going to need to take at least a few days off and fans hope it’s not more than a week or so.
Many Dancing With the Stars fans worried about Derek doing both the New York show and a full season of DWTS, as it was a lot to take on. However, Hough thrives on keeping a busy schedule and if anybody could pull it off, it would be him.
