Cissy Houston: Bobbi Kristina Brown Has ‘Irreversible Brain Damage’ Despite Bobby Brown’s ‘Awake’ Comments [Video]

Bobbi Kristina Brown has suffered “irreversible brain damage,” according to her grandmother Cissy Houston. The tragic news comes after weeks of speculation that have escalated since Jan. 31, 2015, when she was found face-down in a bathtub in her home. And it also follows comments from her father Bobby Brown that she is “awake.”

But before that date, Bobbi Kristina was like millions of other 21-year-old young women despite having famous parents (Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown). She had a boyfriend with whom she loved, in Nick Gordon, relatives to whom she was close – Cissy Houston, Leolah Brown, Tina Brown, Jerod Brown, and Pat Houston – and a career that she was trying to establish, as a singer, in memory of her mother.

But on Jan. 31, everything changed, not just for Bobbi Kristina but for those around her. Found unconscious, lying face-down in a bathtub, she was rushed to a hospital intensive care unit. After weeks on life support, she was moved to a long-term care rehabilitation center. Because of the brain damage suffered from lack of oxygen, Bobbi Kristina was placed into a medically induced coma to allow the brain to heal.

Throughout the weeks that have passed, her relatives have remained primarily silent. They asked for prayers, but until Bobby Brown broke his silence, little was heard. Her boyfriend Nick Gordon had been banned from seeing her, and following increasingly suicidal tweets, an intervention from TV talk show host Dr. Phil resulted in a stay in rehab, where he remains.

But now, after Bobby first spoke about his daughter at a Los Angeles concert (shown below), the floodgates have opened.

Here’s what the main players have to say.

Bobby Brown made his first comments at the Soul Festival thanking the crowd for their support. But it was his comments that his daughter was “awake” that drew attention, and his pregnant wife Alicia Etheredge-Brown is now clarifying those and the condition of Bobbi Kristina, reported CBS News.

“I can say today, Bobbi is awake. She’s watching me,” Brown first said in an emotional announcement during a concert.

However, Alicia emphasized that her husband’s emotions took over during that concert. She also attacked some other family members as well as the media for repeated harsh comments and reports ranging from statements that Bobbi Kristina is brain-dead to vicious in-family battles over her inheritance.

“My husband made an attempt to correct the negative comments he must endure on a daily basis from both family and the public regarding his daughter’s medical condition,” explained Alicia.

She revealed that some progress has occurred, but admitted that the prognosis is long-term and uncertain.

“[Bobbi Kristina] has made it out of ICU, opened her eyes, and started a rehabilitation that will be long and hard. We will hold on to all the blessings GOD gives us to help her at this time and we look forward to her having a relationship with her unborn sister as our family grows in love and faith. I just wish my husband could deal with this most painful and difficult time with people surrounding him who fully support and pray for Bobbi Kristina’s recovery and only her recovery. Life is the most precious thing that we all have.”

However, Bobbi Kristina’s grandmother Cissy Houston painted a more somber portrait of what the future holds for her 22-year-old granddaughter, reported People.

“I have just returned from visiting my granddaughter Bobbi Kristina in the hospital and while she is no longer in a medically induced coma she has a tracheotomy and according to the doctors she has global and irreversible brain damage and remains unresponsive,” said Whitney Houston’s mother.

Cissy expressed her heartbreak over the 22-year-old’s future and also asked for prayers.

“Meeting with the doctors and understanding that she can live in this condition for a lifetime truly saddens me. We can only trust in God for a miracle at this time. Keep us in your prayers.”

Discussing the situation on his talk show, Dr. Drew pointed to Cissy’s statement as the most accurate prognosis for Bobbi Kristina.

And he posed the question as to whether that was a future anyone would desire, noting that it showed the importance of making a living will with specifics as to what to do in such a situation. At this point, Bobby Brown has full power of attorney for his daughter, making her medical decisions for her.

As the Inquisitr reported, Bobby’s attorney, Christopher Brown, also further clarified the future for Bobbi Kristina, differentiating between her physical “long life” versus her mental capacity to recover.

“Doctors have indicated that she will have a long life. However, Bobbi Kristina is presently embarking on a rehabilitation process and the quality of her life will not be known for years to come.”

But Leolah Brown used Facebook to express her own views, reported Us Weekly.

“FB friends, Thank YOU! All of you who show your love and concern for my niece Bobbi Kriss!!! Those of you who continue your prayers and kind words; I have always told you and I sincerely mean it from the depths of my heart! Your prayers, love and concern will NEVER be forgotten by ME nor BOBBI KRISS! May God continue to use you as a vessel to spread light, love and kind words in such a time where it is needed.”

But Leolah expressed anger at those who wanted Bobbi Kristina’s inheritance.

“Inspite [sic] of what you may hear from those who wish to see my niece go away forever; that they may have their way! Yes I said it! Those who lust for Bobbi Kristina’s money and seek to benefit from her tragedy! Inspite of what they may say!!! You heard her father~my brother~Bobby Brown! He stood & told the world~BOBBI KRISS IS WAKING UP! It is evidently clear that she is still with us! Correct?”

While all this happens, Nick Gordon remains in rehab, as the Inquisitr reported. Sheltered in a treatment center for his admitted abuse of both alcohol and drugs, Gordon may go to a halfway house following his rehab stint, according to a source.
