Green Beret Dies After Running Into Home Fire To Save Daughters
Green Beret Edward Cantrell died a hero’s death this week when he ran into his family home in an attempt to save his two young daughters.
Edward had recently returned home from a tour of duty when a fire broke out in his house, he jumped out of his second floor window with his wife where they realized there was no other way out of their home but then quickly wrapped himself in a blanket and ran back into the home to search for 6-year-old Isabella and 4-year-old Natalia.
Unfortunately a sheriff’s spokeswoman says “he never made it back out.”
Cantrell was a decorated war hero with four Bronze Stars and one Purple Heart. During his time overseas he served one combat deployment in Iraq and five deployments in Afghanistan.
A member of the 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg his commander officer said in a statement:
“There are no words to express the sorrow felt in our close-knit community when a family suffers such a tragedy.
Isabella’s school principal also revealed that Cantrell had spoke in great depth about retiring from the military and starting his own business which would allow him to spend more time with his wife and daughters.
Isabella’s principle said of the little girl:
“She was very loved. You could see that in her parents, that she was used to people caring about her.”
The local fire department says Cantrell and his daughters died of smoke inhalation.
Our thoughts go out to Cantrell’s family and friends as they mourn the loss of not one but three lives.
Do you think Edward Cantrell is a hero for running back into his home in an attempt to save his two daughters?
