By now, everyone knows that Nina Dobrev is leaving The Vampire Diaries. While that may be the best decision for her career and for her life, that doesn’t negate the emotion Ms. Dobrev feels that goes along with parting ways. After all, Nina has worked with her cast for six years now and some of them are more like family than mere Vampire Diaries co-stars. The cast and crew used the filming location of Ms. Dobrev’s last Vampire Diaries episode to throw a farewell celebration for Nina, after filming wrapped up.
“Officially a mess. No hiding it anymore,” Dobrev wrote. “Today has been a day filled with farewells…it’s officially a wrap on Caroline&Elena&Bonnie.”
Perhaps one of the most emotional goodbyes for Ms. Dobrev was parting from co-star Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries.

It seems doubtful that Nina will share a similar tender moment between herself and real-life ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder, after recent events and Hollywood gossip. Fans of The Vampire Diaries and of the former couple in particular would certainly like to see Dobrev and Ian share some heartfelt parting, but that may not be in the cards while other feelings are still running hot.
As for the final days of filming, Nina’s last episode of The Vampire Diaries, the event was spent on Lake Lanier in Georgia.
“I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn’t just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. I always knew I wanted Elena’s story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime.”
US Weekly caught up with Michael Malarkey, The Vampire Diaries‘ Enzo, following the wrap on the season finale that also serves as Nina’s departure, and he confirmed that the fans will find Dobrev’s last episode to be very heartbreaking, but, that it’s also a wonderful way to part.
“We all love to hang out. The thing about being on location is that we are each other’s best friends. For Nina and potentially Trevino’s going away kind of party we all went to a lake house up in Lake Lanier, which is gorgeous. It was just a real celebration of all of our time together as opposed to a sad thing. I think that’s a real testament to how connected everyone is.”
Nina Dobrev’s final episode of The Vampire Diaries, ominously titled “I’m Thinking of You All the While,” will air on May 14 on the CW network.
