WWE News: The Rock Helped Deliver Ronda Rousey Appearance At ‘WrestleMania’
When Ronda Rousey appeared at WrestleMania 31 less than a month ago, it created quite a stir within the sports community. Not only was this big news in WWE circles, but Rousey’s appearance made headlines across several mainstream sports outlets such as ESPN, Yahoo, and FOX. It was quite shocking to see the current UFC Women’s Champion at a WWE event.
According to a PWInsider Elite report from Mike Johnson, former WWE superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson deserves some credit for delivering the Ronda Rousey’s appearance at WrestleMania. According to the report, The Rock eased any tensions that UFC President Dana White had about Rousey appearing at the WWE show.
Rousey participated in an in-ring segment with Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and The Rock at WrestleMania, and many have speculated that the segment could eventually lead to a WWE match between Rousey and Stephanie McMahon or possibly a tag team match with Rousey and The Rock taking on McMahon and Triple H. The rumor has been that a match at either SummerSlam or WrestleMania 32 could be in the works, but whether or not Dana White signs off on that remains to be seen.
According to Johnson’s report, the feeling within WWE is split on whether UFC will actually allow Rousey, one of their biggest drawing names on PPV, to participate in an actual match for WWE. Rousey stepping into a WWE ring would always present the risk that an unplanned injury could occur, possibly affecting her future ability to draw money for UFC.
There are also rumors that Rousey could make another non-wrestling appearance for WWE the next time a major show is held in Los Angeles at the Staples Center, which would be Hell In A Cell on October 25. Rousey currently resides in the Los Angeles area.
According to the PWInsider report, WWE feel as though Ronda Rousey is now “part of the family,” despite Rousey being under contract to UFC. The company reportedly fully expects her to make some kind of appearance for them again in the future, whether or not that involves participating in a wrestling match down the line. There is also a possibility that WWE will assist in promoting some of Rousey’s non-UFC projects in the future to sweeten the deal. Ronda has started to get her name out there in Hollywood as an actress, as she landed a role in The Rock’s newest film, Furious 7, which is in theatres now. In the past, Rousey appeared in The Expendables 3, and she has upcoming roles in Entourage and Portal To Hell, according to IMDB.
