The Kansas City Chiefs finished the 2010 NFL regular season with a 10-6 record, and they are the first team we shall look at the made the NFL playoffs. Of course they lost at home in the first round to the Baltimore Ravens. This was a very streaky tam they would win a few, and then lose a few. When things were going right they looked pretty good, but when things were tough it seems they folded in a bit. That is a bad trait that Head Coach Todd Haley is going to have to rid them of.
The offense scored 366 points or 22.9 points per game on average. Matt Cassel saw the most time as this team’s starting QB and he completed right around 58% of his passes for 3,116 yards, with 27 TD’s and just 7 INT’s. Pretty good numbers all in all, and he was sacked 26 times. The running game behind him averaged over 164 yards per game with their one two punch of Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones. The only thing lacking is a true deep threat receiver.
The defense on the other hand gave up 326 points or 20.4 points per game on average. Their take away differential was +9, and they were in the upper half of most team defense stat categories. There is room for improvement here, but they were a pretty solid squad. They forced 18 fumbles and picked off 14 passes while registering 38 sacks. Not great numbers, but enough to beat up on a lot of teams.
The thing that concerns me is that half of their losses came to teams in their division, and they lost to the Oakland Raiders twice. Sure that might not matter as they did win their division, but that is a lot of losing to divisional opponents. .
