Shawne Merriman, Former NFL Linebacker, Says He Would Demolish UFC Fighter CM Punk In Most Painful Way

With the exception of anything to do with Ronda Rousey, the MMA world has been polarized by news of CM Punk fighting in UFC. The former WWE superstar has been busy training for his debut fight in which the earliest it may take place is later this year. Until then, the Inquisitr has kept up with the latest on Punk’s progression in which the UFC is helping promote with an upcoming documentary and the recent release of promotional pictures. As for insights by other popular figureheads, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has called Punk a “real man” for pursuing an MMA career in UFC.

However, not everyone is sold on CM Punk’s foray into MMA through UFC. As a matter of fact, some people just simply hate him. Case and point, former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman has made it clear that if he could, he would demolish CM Punk in the most painful way possible.

According to the Bleacher Report and CBS Sports, Shawne Merriman is the latest to join a group who show disdain for CM Punk. Merriman made his views clear during an appearance on Fox’s At The Buzzer when he said he would inflict misery and ruin on Punk.

“I would do a lot of things to him. I wouldn’t just want to beat him. I’d want to demolish him for the whole entire fight. I wouldn’t want to pin him, wouldn’t want to knock him out. I just want to make him feel pain for every round. I’m going for the kill shot every single time. I don’t want to knock him out, I just want to make him feel punishment and pain the entire round.”

Some people, especially straight MMA fans, are wondering why Shawne Merriman has so much hatred towards CM Punk in the first place. The fact of the matter is that both Merriman and Punk have issues with each other originating back in 2011 when CM Punk tweeted this on his official Twitter account.

The aforementioned tweet is in accordance to a time when Shawne Merriman was talking to a friend, former WWE Divas and commentator Eve Torres, at a pool. Merriman attests to this, providing more details on the situation.

“We have a little beef. We had a little history. I was talking to a friend, Eve, who I met, who is a commentator/broadcaster for WWE. I said “Hey, how you guys doing?”…I saw her at the hotel…we had a good conversation, she walked off and next thing I know, this guy [CM Punk] goes out and puts on Twitter…that I got dissed by one of the WWE women…this is coming from a guy who was wearing a small speedo/thong next to the pool.”

In conclusion, the situation between CM Punk and Shawne Merriman has been delegated by fans, MMA forums, sports news sites, and many others as “spectacularly dumb” and a “petty beef.” Besides, if both Punk and Merriman wanted to, they could easily settle their differences in UFC or any MMA organization given the right pitch and promotion.
