Rush Limbaugh Calls Girl Who Wanted To Testify a “Slut”
Rush Limbaugh is really working hard for civility in modern politics. It is bad enough some of the things he says but on Wednesday he called a woman who was supposed to testify in front of a congressional committee a “Slut”
Sandra Fluke, a student at Georgetown Law School, was called as a democratic witness to discuss the new contraception rule being fought over between President Obama and the Republicans. She was barred form speaking (in fact all women were) even though she planned to tell the committee that birth control pills were not just for safe sex but to help people like her friend prevent the growth of cysts.
Limbaugh thought the girl was just there to promote casual sex. He said,
“Can you imagine if you were her parents how proud…you would be? Your daughter … testifies she’s having so much sex she can’t afford her own birth control pills and she wants President Obama to provide them, or the Pope.”
He continued:
“What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex — what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex. ok, so she’s not a slut. She’s round-heeled.”
(Round-heeled” is an old-fashioned term for promiscuity.)
In this day and age is it at all appropriate that someone like Rush Limbaugh can call a woman a slut on his show?
