Is Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ The Best Superhero TV Series Ever?

Netflix is releasing all 13 episodes of its new series, Daredevil, on Friday, and the reviews for the new series have been positive so far. There’s even one critic who said it’s the best television adaptation of a comic book superhero character to date.

Only the first five episodes of the new Netflix series were given to critics for review. But that was enough for Slate‘s Jack Hamilton to proclaim to give Daredevil high praise.

“So far, Daredevil is the best superhero television show I’ve ever seen; more than that, it stands among the best screen ventures that Marvel has yet undertaken. It’s dark and gripping, smart and sure-footed.”

Unlike ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel is gearing the new Netflix series more toward an adult audience with its TV-MA rating. Hamilton compared Daredevil‘s dark tone to that of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

Daredevil is a glowering thriller that makes full use of its Netflix pedigree: It’s nearly impossible to imagine this show on network television, not least for its occasionally shocking violence.”

On Rotten Tomatoes, there are only 11 reviews counted at the time of this post for the new Netflix series, but all of them are positive. Mark Hughes of Forbes is almost on the same level of Hamilton when it comes to praising Daredevil.

“Marvel delivers one of the greatest live-action superhero origin stories ever made. It is in the same top-tier category of true superhero origin films along with Batman Begins, Iron Man, [and] Superman: The Movie.”

Hughes even mentioned that the Netflix series could attract those who only seem to be interested in DC projects.

“It has more of a ‘grounded’ feel in the sort of pseudo-realism that many DC fans prefer (and which they praise in Arrow and the Christopher Nolan Batman films), and which we’ve seen in certain more serious-leaning Marvel movies like Iron Man and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Entertainment Weekly‘s Darren Franich gave Daredevil an A-, but he did note that the Netflix series does have its flaws.

“It’s trying to be a lot of things—a lawyer show, a superhero saga, a crime epic, a city symphony—and it doesn’t succeed at everything. But there’s an energy to the first five episodes, a feeling that this show can try everything.”

With the release of Netflix’s Daredevil, Marvel fans are curious if the character will make a jump to the big screen. He did previously in 2003, when Ben Affleck played the lead role. But with the Marvel Universe being as it is now, will Daredevil return? As the Inquisitr previously reported, star Charlie Cox said he’d be interested in having the character be a part of the Avengers.

“I have no idea if this is even a possibility but I can tell you that I would love nothing more. I don’t see why the character from our show couldn’t fit in with the Avengers, if he was invited.”
