Oh, crossovers. You either love them or you hate them. Sometimes there’s not enough of one show, seen when two shows join forces for one or two episodes. Well, in the case of Chicago Fire , Chicago P.D. and Law & Order: SVU on NBC, they’ve managed to find a pretty good balance with a crossover event spread across three shows on two nights, and another one is coming.
Crossovers have become quite the norm with the Chicago franchise. Chicago Fire just introduced a potential Chicago Med spinoff, the cast of which would include the brother of Chicago P.D. ‘s Jay Halstead , so just imagine the potential for future crossovers between those three shows alone. But for now, Chicago Med is only a possibility, so any dreams of a potential four-show crossover will have to remain just that – a dream – for now.
But what brings the three shows together this time? According to the Hollywood Reporter , they’re after someone responsible for a string of brutal rape/murders, and they have their sights set on charismatic doctor Greg Yates, played by Dallas Roberts ( The Walking Dead , The Good Wife ).
While the three squads have managed to work together in the past to solve a case, it’s impossible not to be worried about what will happen every time Casey and Voight share a scene, given their past. Jesse Spencer told TVLine that while the situation is only going to increase the tension between those two characters, in this upcoming crossover, they will have to put it aside.
“The problem is that they can’t really bring it back up because I don’t think they’d get over it. The idea is that they’re going to be forced to work together in a situation that involves the [strip] club. So the tension between them is going to be palpable, but they have to aim for their objective first and try and put the personal stuff behind them, which is not going to be easy.”
The official promo for this next Chicago Fire / PD / SVU crossover below begins with the tease of Mills making a “life-changing decision” and seemingly leaving the firehouse behind.
The rest of the video is all about the crossover event. Benson and Voight will once again be working together, and after last time, how could you not want to see more of that? They seem to be after a guy who’s been at it for 10 years, and it looks like one member from the three shows may end up as his next target.
“Don’t you just hate it when you kidnap a girl and she won’t stop kicking the back of your seat?” Greg Yates (Roberts) asks Lindsay.
This next Chicago Fire / Law & Order: SVU / Chicago P.D. crossover will air April 28 and 29 on NBC.
