Kanye West’s Late Mother Shows Off Rap Skills In Heartwarming Video
Fans of rapper Kanye West are tearing up all over the world, as a heart-warming video of the artist and his mother has been circulating recently on the internet.
The touching footage was uncovered by the Fader and was taken around the year 2005 as part of an MTV special. At that time, West was putting together one of his earlier albums, Late Registration.

The clip starts off with Donda proudly performing her son’s very first rap. Although that particular rap didn’t make it to wax, it apparently was dear to West’s mother. As his mother rapped, West attentively listened. He also occasionally reminded her of lyrics that she had already forgotten. This earlier part of the clip had been previously revealed but the second part that follows had yet to be shown to the public.
The next part of the clip showed the mother and son performing “Hey Mama” in the kitchen. Viewing the footage, West’s strong bond with his mother becomes evident. As they were singing, the two were shown laughing and enjoying each other’s company.
The video highlights the deep love and admiration that West had for his late mother. In January, West dropped a new track, “Only One.” According to him, his mother spoke to him through this song. The bittersweet lyrics of West’s single were recorded with the help of Paul McCartney.
“As I lay me down to sleep, I hear her speak to me. Hello ‘Mari, how ya doin?’ I think the storm ran out of rain, the clouds are movin’. I know you’re happy, cause I can see it. So tell the voice inside ya’ head to believe it. I talked to God about you, he said he sent you an angel and look at all that he gave you. You asked for one and you got two. You know I never left you, cause every road that leads to heaven’s right inside you.”
Donda passed away in 2008 due to surgery complications. Her death devastated West and led him to a breaking point. Out of misery, he acted out and got himself into quite some trouble. He wasn’t afraid to be public about his behavior too. Fortunately, the rapper seemingly managed to get his life on track when he started dating Kim Kardashian, who he eventually married in 2014. The couple now have a 2-year-old daughter, North.
In honor of his late mother, Kanye West also named his creative agency DONDA.
