Barry Manilow Married Manager Garry Kief In Surprise Wedding
Barry Manilow reportedly married Garry Kief during a surprise wedding last year.
According to Us Weekly, the 71-year-old singer exchanged vows with his longtime manager in his Palm Springs home.
“Guests were surprised, not knowing they were actually being invited to a wedding.”
People reports that the wedding was actually disguised as a lunch, which was attended by the couple’s family and friends.
The report further claims that neither Barry nor Garry signed legal documents. However, they both have been spotted wearing wedding bands on the appropriate fingers.
An inside source opened up about the couple’s alleged relationship and commitment to one another.
“[Barry Manilow and Garry Kief] are committed to one another and have been for a very long time. They have a great relationship. Garry has always been there for Barry.”
Back in 1964, Barry Manilow married his high school girlfriend Susan Deixler. However, their marriage did not last very long at all. More than a year after the couple first became man and wife, Barry reportedly had the marriage annulled in 1966.
Reports claim that the “Mandy” singer also had a long-term relationship with Linda Allen, but that came to an end in the 1980s. Lorna Luft, one of Judy Garland’s daughters and a close friend of Manilow, opened up about an alleged relationship between herself and Barry in her memoirs.
Over the years, Barry Manilow has been able to successfully keep his private life away from the public eye — especially when it came to his sexual orientation. Although there has been a lot of speculation circulating about whether or not Manilow was gay, he has never confirmed or denied the allegations publicly.
In a 2012 interview with Telegraph, Barry Manilow did not share very much information about his personal life at all. On the other hand, he did speak openly about his privacy.
“I am a private guy. You can only come into my world if I invite you in. From the very beginning that was the rule. I learnt how to deal with the publicity/press thing. You just say, ‘I’m not interested in talking about [that].’ Even the names of my dogs! They are my kids, my friends are my friends and my family, they are mine.”
Barry continued by stating that his private life plays a vital role in his overall survival.
“That’s the only way I can survive. I have to keep that to me. I don’t want strangers knowing everything. If that happened, that would drive me crazy.”
For over five decades, Barry Manilow has maintained a successful career in the music industry, performing such memorable hits as “Mandy,” “Copacabana (At the Copa)” and “Can’t Smile Without You.”
