Agents Taught Malia To Drive: Malia Obama Received Driving Lessons From Secret Service Agents
Apparently, agents taught Malia how to drive. According to the Town Hall, Michelle Obama admitted that her 16-year-old daughter was given driving lessons by the U.S. secret service. Mrs. Obama sat down for a chat with Rachael Ray when she was asked about her two kids. Now that Malia is old enough to get behind the wheel, Ray asked who taught the young lady how to drive.
“The Secret Service [taught her], actually, because they wouldn’t let me in the car with her,” explained Michelle. She said that driving provides “a sense of normalcy” for her daughter, who can better relate to her friends who are also driving now.
“My kids have got to learn how to live in the world like normal kids,” Michelle added. This is becoming more important as the Obama family plans to move out of the White House in 2017. Malia and her younger sister, Sasha, 13, will be living a “normal” life after spending eight years living as the First Family.
The agents that taught Malia how to drive won’t be as present as they are in her life now. For instance, Malia hasn’t really been able to do much of anything on her own because there is always security in tow wherever she goes. According to CNN, Malia’s mom wants her daughters to experience “normal” things that other kids are experiencing, and says that Malia will eventually have an opportunity to drive on her own.
“She always has security around. But in order for her to learn how to drive, she had to drive on her own. So once she was legally permitted to drive on her own, she gets in her car,” Michelle said.
Aside from agents teaching Malia to drive, the teen has also been doing something else pretty important: Scouting colleges. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Michelle recently accompanied her daughter on a tour of New York University, Barnard College, and Columbia University. Sources say that Malia is interested in studying filmmaking. As for why her dad didn’t go on this trip with her, it was likely a way to allow Malia to really get to know the campus without the added attention of her dad being around.
Barack Obama feels as though the college process is important for his daughter, but he wants her to make her own choice. If he had to choose? Well, he really loves Stanford.
“I’ve got to admit, like, I kind of want to go here. I was trying to figure out why it is that a really nice place like this is wasted on young people who don’t fully appreciate what you got. It’s really nice. And everybody here is so friendly and smart, and it’s beautiful. And what’s there not to like?” Obama said previously.
