Mike Huckabee Calls The GOP Primary Toxic, Keeps 2016 Door Open [Video]
In an interview with an Israeli TV station, Mike Huckabee went after the Republican Party and specifically its primary candidates. Huckabee told the station that the Republican ‘toxic atmosphere‘ had cemented his position that he would not be running for president in 2012.
Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas and a GOP presidential candidate in 2008, had made an announcement earlier in the year that he would be sitting out the Republican Primary this time and not run for President.
In the interview he talked about the election and how this reason was the sole reason he decided to ignore his strong poll numbers and sit this one out.
He told the TV station,
“I think that there is just such a toxic atmosphere right now, specifically in the Republican party. I would love to say that it’s going to be all about ideas and solutions, but unfortunately a lot of it is about just being able to say, ‘I’m more angry at the Obama administration than somebody else.’ That’s not what motivates me politically or governmentally. I believe it ought to be about solutions.”
Many in the Republican Party think that the primary being waged right now is doing a lot more harm than good. The candidates have made it a point to attack and smear each other all over the country which is doing nothing but helping President Obama get reelected.
On Monday, former Mississippi Governor. Haley Barbour, told CBS News that the brutal primary season was detracting from the party’s goals.
“Any time we’re not talking about Obama’s policies and the results of those policies, we’re not talking about what’s the best thing for Republicans in the election,”
Barbour was another Republican that was being pressured to run in 2012 and he declined.
Huckabee also commented that he may be in to run in 2016 saying,
“You know, you never rule anything out for the long term. I very might well do that.”
Huckabee declined the invitation to endorse a candidate as he has done this entire election season.
