It’s been no secret that Manchester United’s defense has been rather porous and shaky this season. And it looks as though Louis Van Gaal is going to try and correct that by purchasing two of the most coveted defenders in the world
Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels has been on Manchester United’s radar for several months now, and it’s been alleged that the defender is now making moves to try and force a transfer to Old Trafford.
According to the Mirror , Hummels told his German teammates over the international break that his move to the 20-time English champions is on the brink of being agreed upon.
A source even told the publication, “He is preparing his exit and he gave some of the players signs that his transfer his close.” It’s been suggested that Louis Van Gaal made Hummels his number one defensive target several months ago, while it would probably cost United around $50 million to prize the defender away from Germany.
The Dortmund centre-back had previously made it clear that he would be open to a transfer away from the Bundesliga, while explaining that he believes it would be good for his career.
“I think moving abroad will be good for my professional personal well-being. Eventually I’d like to leave the Bundesliga. I’m being open about this because I’m not a fan of those who claim the are staying but, behind the scenes, have actually secretly agreed a transfer away from their current club.”
Hummels also admitted that even though he loves it at Dortmund, he wants to “make sure [he’s] part of a strong team with powerful players.”
Meanwhile, Hummels isn’t the only defender that Manchester United allegedly have their eye on. Because, according to Goal , United are interested in purchasing Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton for around $40 million.
United are also willing to offer Mexican forward Javier Hernandez, who they loaned out to Real Madrid for the entire 2014-2015 Premier League season, as part of the deal too.
The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the most impressive fullbacks in the Premier League since joining Southampton in 2012, while he’s also developed into a full England international too.
If Manchester United doesn’t land Clyne then they are allegedly tempted to try and bring Dani Alves to Old Trafford from Barcelona.
