Julianne Moore Criticized By Sarah Palin’s Former Spokesperson
Julianne Moore has received praise and criticism for her portrayal of Sarah Palin in the HBO movie “Game Change.” The movie, which depicts the turmoil inside John McCain’s campaign in 2008, depicts Palin as an attention grabbing, but inexperienced, politician.
Palin’s former spokeswoman Meg Stapleton called Moore’s depiction of Palin sick. Stapleton says that the movie shows Palin as a weak character.
The movie won’t hit HBO until March 12th, but a trailer does show Palin nearing a nervous breakdown. Moore said that she knew the role would be controversial but she doesn’t believe that it’s an unfair portrayal of Sarah Palin. Moore said:
“We have her displaying moments of sheer brilliance –- I mean, she was unbelievably charismatic. Suddenly here was this working class mother who popped out and seemed to be able to command the world, but of course upon further inspection, she was clearly not prepared. She didn’t necessarily have the experience necessary to lead our country, and that’s what we were attempting to characterize.”
But Stapleton thinks that Julianne Moore’s performance in “Game Change” mocks the former governor of Alaska. Stapleton said:
“They mock Governor Palin… as weak and unable to cope and press forward. And the movie and the trailer… say that. And yet, look with your own eyes at what she and her family have endured and inspired over the last few years. Any lesser man would have hanged himself by now. So who’s weak?”
It’s hard to judge Moore’s portrayal at the moment, you know, since the movie isn’t out yet. But here’s a look at the “Game Change” trailer. Do you think Sarah Palin looks weak in “Game Change?”
