Why Was Demetria McKinney Absent From The ‘RHOA’ Season 7 Reunion?
Demetria McKinney claims she was not banned from The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 7 reunion. Earlier this week, as the Inquisitr reported, a source alleged McKinney was not wanted at the taping because she didn’t bring enough drama to the series.
However, in an April 1 interview with Wetpaint Entertainment, Demetria McKinney said that was not the case, and explained her absence.
“There have been rumors circulating that I was fired from RHoA and ‘banned’ from the reunion set. This is completely untrue.”
On March 30, a source told Radar Online that Demetria McKinney was “banned” from the reunion and explained “producers didn’t feel that Demetria had enough to bring to the table.” The source also noted that part-time housewife Porsha Williams attended the reunion but will only appear in a limited role.
In addition to denying Radar’s report, Demetria McKinney claimed she has not been fired from The Real Housewives of Atlanta. In fact, she claims she’s done well on the show. So well, in fact, that her busy schedule didn’t allow her to attend the reunion taping last week. As she explained, her music career comes first, and since she has been so busy preparing for upcoming performances, the Bravo reality show took a back seat.
“I was not ‘banned’ from the reunion set nor was I fired from the show. I am under contract for this season just like the rest of the cast. Fortunately, because of the platform the show has provided for me, my music career has escalated and that will always come first. In addition to continuing to support RHoA, I am currently busy with my live performances as well as preparing for the upcoming Funkfest Tour that I have been added to with R. Kelly, SWV and Erykah Badu.”
Demetria McKinney was added to the Bravo series for Season 7 as a part-time housewife. Joining her in her debut season was Claudia Jordan, who came aboard as a full-time housewife.
Currently, there is no word on an eighth season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, but if the show does continue, there could be major changes. For instance, if Demetria McKinney’s music career continues to thrive, she may not be available to film scenes for Season 8. Also, cast member NeNe Leakes recently landed her own spin-off with Kim Zolciak, which may take up the majority of her time.
