Manchester United is on the alert after German defender Mats Hummels declared that a move abroad may be needed to push his career forward. Mats Hummels has been a target for Manchester United in the past. However, with qualification for the Champions League highly unlikely for BVB Dortmund, a move might be formulating behind the scenes.
“Some days I think I would definitely like to move abroad but then, other days, I think I don’t fancy it at all. Basically, I think moving abroad would be good for my professional and personal well-being. Eventually, I’d like to leave the Bundesliga.”
Hummels indicated that he is yet to decide on his future at the club.
“I have had many conversations with the leaders of Dortmund, where I know I am a big part of the team, but I am yet to make a decision about my future. I’m being open about this because I’m not a fan of those who claim they are staying but, behind the scenes, have actually secretly agreed a transfer away from their current club.”
Manchester United is currently poised to qualify for the Champions League next season, hovering 5 points above fierce rivals Liverpool. While they have gathered success in terms of results, many believe that an improvement in personnel is strongly especially in defence.
Recently, the English defensive duo of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have reportedly been noted as surplus to requirements.
Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal is set for a huge bonus should he steer the Red Devils back in to the Champions League. According to reports , Van Gaal should receive around $1.5 around million if he regains Champions League status.
