Rachel Bilson Had A Reunion With ‘The O.C.’ Co-Star Autumn Reeser During ‘Hart Of Dixie’ Series Finale
Rachel Bilson may be seeing her popular but low-rated show going off the air, but the Hart of Dixie star used the end of the series as a chance to look back at her breakout role.
The 33-year-old actress was reunited with former The O.C. costar Autumn Reeser for the fourth season finale — and ultimately the series finale — of Hart of Dixie. Reeser guest starred as the replacement for George Tucker (Scott Porter), the lawyer in the fictional town of Bluebell, Alabama.
Reeser had already given fans a glimpse of the O.C. reunion, sharing a picture of herself and Rachel Bilson on WhoSay back in September.
“Love this girl, such a pleasure to work w/ her again!!” Reeser wrote alongside the shot. “A mini #OC reunion on the finale ep of @CWHartofDixie.”
Both Reeser and Bilson have been very busy since the Fox show went off the air in 2007. Both have moved on to new projects professionally and also started families. Reeser has two sons — 3-year-old Finneus James and 16-month-old Dashiell Ford — while Bilson just welcomed her first child, a daughter named Briar Rose.
For Bilson, having a child fulfilled a lifelong dream to become a mother.
“I’ve always wanted to be a mom,” she told Health magazine last year. “I have always wanted kids. I can just see this little toddler waddling around the house.”
But Rachel Bilson and boyfriend Hayden Christensen appeared as if they might never reach that point. The couple was engaged but broke it off in 2008, then reunited.
Sources close to the couple said both of them were excited to have kids.
“They’ve both talked about this for awhile and are so excited,” a source said earlier this year. “Everyone is beyond thrilled for them.”
If Rachel Bilson and Autumn Reeser were to ever have another O.C. reunion, it will have to be in a different venue. This month the show was canceled, with the series finale airing March 27.
Fans of the show already had an idea that Hart of Dixie was ending after creator Leila Gerstein tweeted about the final three episodes of the show starting.
In a previous interview, Gernstein also hinted that there would be “a lot of closure” in this year’s season finale.
“Everyone is going to be satisfied that by the end of the 10 episodes, all the central love triangles have been resolved, all the central questions have been answered and we’re going to have a lot of fun along the way,” Gernstein said, adding another hint that the show was going off the air, “We have been saving a lot of stuff for each of the stories and we decided to burn through it all this year.”
But Gernstein didn’t mention The O.C. reunion between Rachel Bilson and Autumn Reeser.
