‘Teen Mom’ Amber Portwood Wanted To Get Back With Gary Shirley After Prison
Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is currently engaged to Matthew Baier, but just over a year ago, it was another man who had her heart. Unfortunately, her fans weren’t on board with her relationship goals.
Acccording to a March 23 report by Hollywood Life, over 75 percent of fans were convinced Teen Mom couple Amber Portwood and her ex-boyfriend, Gary Shirley, would never work out.
On episodes of Teen Mom, Portwood and Shirley were often seen feuding. Although they did have a few good times, including a romantic beach proposal, the majority of their scenes featured them fighting — physically at times.
Still, when the Teen Mom star was released from prison in November, 2013, it was Shirley who she wanted to be involved with.
During a March 20 interview with TV Guide, Portwood admitted to wanting to get back with her ex-boyfriend, despite their previously strained relationship, which fans saw plenty of on Teen Mom.
“At the beginning, it was a completely different story from now — I wanted my family back together. When I realized Gary was with Christina, I realized that we didn’t have anything anymore and I was trying to make something out of nothing. And you see that your relationship is so toxic, and if you were together you’d be so unhappy.”
Although the Teen Mom wanted Shirley to take her back, he had moved on with Kristina Anderson, who is now expecting his second child. While the news of Shirley’s relationship likely came as a bit of a shock to Portwood, things eventually turned out okay.
Months later, as she attempted to get her life back on track after prison, the Teen Mom met and fell in love with Baier. Then, during filming on Teen Mom OG, the couple became engaged.
“When you meet that person you love, everything to falls into place and you tend to move on and my life now is a lot better because of it and Boo Boo (Leah) is really happy too.”
As the Inquisitr previously reported, the Teen Mom star recently updated fans on her current relationship with Shirley, claiming that while they get along okay, they keep their interaction to a minimum.
“We’re co-parenting the best that we can,” she told People on Saturday. “It’s not perfect and [Shirley] still gets on my nerves, but we’re happy with the people we’re with.”
Teen Mom OG airs on Mondays at 10 p.m. on MTV.
