Moviegoers Can Relax: Beyoncé Is Not Starring In Film With Brad Pitt
Moviegoers all over Twitter and other social media were in an uproar when it was announced that Beyoncé may be joining Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and Christian Bale in The Big Short.Vanity Fair discussed the rumor.
“And now—despite all of these high-profile players—the entire enterprise may be overshadowed by the addition of perhaps the highest-profile of high-profile players: one Beyoncé. This morning, Lewis appeared on CBS This Morning, where he revealed the film would begin shooting today in New Orleans. And then Lewis ran through the cast members: ‘An incredible cast… Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell… and I think Beyoncé.'”
Many film freaks were angry, given that Beyoncé’s foray into films has been pretty spotty. In 2006, Beyoncé was one of the stars of Dreamgirls. However, Beyoncés performance was overshadowed by Jennifer Hudson, who won an Academy Award for the film. In 2009, Beyoncé debuted to bad reviews in Obsessed. However, according to Gossip Cop, Beyoncé‘s role in the film was nothing but a rumor.
“Beyonce has NOT been cast in The Big Short, despite what the author of the book upon which the movie is based claimed during an interview with CBS This Morning…But it’s ‘not true,’ a rep for Beyoncé exclusively tells Gossip Cop. Paramount Pictures also confirms only to Gossip Cop that she’s not in the film.”
Perhaps this isn’t a good thing for Kanye West, who would, without doubt, protest the Academy Awards if Beyoncé didn’t win one. West nearly interrupted the Grammy Awards last month because Beyoncé lost to Beck for Album of the Year. However, many thought Beyoncé didn’t deserve to win. According to EurWeb, even 50 Cent believed Beck deserved the Grammy for Album of the Year over Beyoncé.
“He produced the record, wrote the record, it’s eleven producers on Beyoncé’s album. Kanye being a producer and a writer should see that. I don’t think people care about those establishments anymore. My reasons for going to awards shows is my peers being there to acknowledge the work… if it means that we get to choose ourselves, who deserves what award, then why would I show up for them to tell me?”
Beyoncé has been facing quite the backlash lately. While she couldn’t control Kanye West’s behavior, Bey was roundly criticized for pushing aside Ledisi for a Grammy performance of “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.” However, every pop star who is on top of the world gets criticized and, so far, Beyoncé has handled her critics with class.
