WWE News: WWE Currently Looking At WWE NXT House Show Dates To Compete With Ring Of Honor?
WWE NXT continues to take the professional wrestling world by storm. With stars like Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville and more, there is nothing stopping WWE NXT from becoming the best independent wrestling promotion in the world. There is one problem though, WWE NXT is not an independent wrestling promotion. Does it feel like they are?
The lighting, the small, intimate settings (usually at Florida’s Full Sail University) combined with the wrestling content in the ring separate it from the spectacle that is the usual WWE fare. It’s still odd that they aren’t doing many backstage segments, but rather promos in the ring. Unlike WWE Monday Night Raw and WWE Smackdown, WWE NXT focuses on the in-ring product, rather than the entertainment. WWE Raw is an entertainment show, while WWE NXT is a wrestling show.
Since NXT is doing so well, Ring of Honor is trying to lock up as many wrestlers as they can, so WWE doesn’t take them. There’s a rumor out there that the Briscoe Brothers are trying to be lured away from ROH. WWE has the money to pay, so why wouldn’t wrestlers want to come to NXT to showcase their talents to a bigger audience? It’s obviously up to the opinion of the specific wrestler.
WWE isn’t trying to kill small promotions; at least it doesn’t appear that is the case. More inclinations are starting to lean that way. According to Cageside Seats, WWE NXT is looking at house show dates that will compete with another big indie promotion.
“Apparently WWE is looking at dates for NXT house shows competing directly with Ring of Honor.”
It’s not NXT’s fault that it’s the best wrestling show in the world. Wrestling is a very subjective topic, as most people carry their own opinions. However, it’s hard to argue that NXT doesn’t have a bad show. Talking about their NXT Takeover specials, WWE fans are still talking about their show, NXT R Evolution that took place in December.
Granted, there are a select number of wrestling fans that consider that show the best wrestling special in years. It is very hard to argue that claim. Balor, Neville, Itami, Owens and Zayn all carried the program, with an incredible women’s match in the middle of the show. Sasha Banks and Charlotte proved their worth and put women’s wrestling on the map once again.
WWE NXT is even starting to make a move on the main shows. In an earlier report by the Inquisitr, a tournament will be held at WrestleMania Axxess to determine an entrant into the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The tournament will include Adrian Neville, Finn Bálor, Tyler Breeze and Hideo Itami. All four men are arguably the most-talented wrestlers on the NXT roster, aside from Zayn and Owens. Is it possible that WWE NXT will surpass Ring of Honor and shut it down?
