Mom Of Teen Who Allegedly ‘Choked His Girlfriend To Death During Rough Sex On Prom Night’ Is Charged With Supplying Them Both With Drugs And Alcohol

A Texas mother has been arrested after new details emerged in the 2014 prom death involving her 18-year-old son, who allegedly choked his girlfriend to death.

Houston police arrived at North Houston Hyatt Hotel early Friday morning on May 17, 2014, where they discovered the body of 17-year-old MacArthur High School student, Jacqueline “Jackie” Gomez. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

When Houston police investigated, they uncovered that Jackie wasn’t alone in the hotel room. She was accompanied by her 18-year-old prom date, Eddie M. Herrera, whose mother, Melissa Ann Martinez, 40, rented the room for them after the dance was over.

It was also concluded that Martinez allegedly provided the teen couple with alcohol and drugs (hydrocodone) before renting the hotel room. This information was later divulged after Herrera decided to confess to choking her before the teen was found dead in their hotel room.

“I put my hands around her neck and squeezed,” Herrera confessed.

Prior to Herrera’s confession, he was charged with aggravated assault and gave investigators various stories on what actually happened on prom night.

His initial story was that Jackie consented to the choking during rough sex and the next time he told his story, it was slightly different.

He did, however, tell investigators that she was alive before he went to sleep. He stated that after choking Jackie during rough sex, the two drank whiskey and headed to bed. When he awoke the next morning, she was unresponsive. He tried to wake her, but she wouldn’t move.

In lieu of calling 911, he called his mother who also rented a room in the hotel. When she arrived, he helped get Jackie dressed and afterwards, she called for help from the hotel staff. The hotel staff called 911.

Asst. District Attorney Bill Exley said that “She (Herrera’s mother) came to the hotel to pick them up and as she was parking, she was called by her son and he advised her that Ms. Gomez was deceased at that that time. So she came to the room and then I guess essentially took over the situation at that point.”

After new details emerged in the prom death case, Martinez was arrested for supplying the two teens with drugs and alcohol.

An autopsy was conducted and the medical examiner believe that she died of an overdose although he could not confirm his own conclusions.

The autopsy report concluded that Jackie had hemorrhaging around her neck and a blood alcohol level of.21. Hydrocodone was also found in her system.
