Amber Riley Sings Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ on ‘Glee’ [Video]

Tributes have been pouring in since Whitney Houston’s death last weekend. Last night on “Glee,” Amber Riley took her turn to pay tribute to the fallen singer by belting out “I Will Always Love You” on the hit Fox show.

On last night’s Valentine’s Day episode Amber Riley’s character Mercedes says goodbye to her current boyfriend, Shane, and her ex-boyfriend, Sam. And what better way than to sing Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”

According to “Glee’s” musical supervisor P.J. Bloom, the tribute was actually a coincidence. Bloom said they had been planning to do Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” during their Valentine’s Day episode. Bloom said:

“We chose to do the song and Ryan Murphy chose to do the song to honor one of the great hits of all time. Obviously, we could not predict the unfortunately circumstances that happened this weekend but at the same time instead of focusing on the dark stuff, it’s nice to have an opportunity to hear her in this way and celebrate the magic that Whitney brought to this industry.”

US Magazine reports that the words “Whitney Houston 1963-2012. We will always love you” rolled during the ending credits of last night’s episode of “Glee.”

Riley’s tribute is the second high-profile tribute for Whitney Houston since her death on Saturday. Jennifer Hudson took the stage during the 2012 Grammy Awards, just a day after Houston’s death, to sing “I Will Always Love You.”
